I am so very very sad to hear of the passing of Melissa. I got to know her when she joined the staff at St Marks's Hospital and was drawn to her quiet gentle manner. She graciously entertained us at her home and I will always remember her warmth and friendship. She fought her illness with such bravery and her passing leaves a huge void in the lives of her family, friends, and patients. She was a caring compassionate person, and I am very pleased to have known her. My deepest sympathy to her father and brother and extended family. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this very sad time.

John, just a note to express our sincere condolences to you and your son John and his family on the passing of Melissa from Sandra and I. What a wonderful, talented daughter and caring physician! Unfortunately, we have reservations to leave Saturday morning for California to attend the Western Society Clinical Meetings next week in Carmel. Thus, we will miss the Memorial Service at St. Mary's at noon. Will there be any other get together that we could attend to express our sorrow and support for you and your family. Sandra and I were also shocked to learn that Diana had passed away. Please let me know if there is another service that we could attend. Should we send flowers to the funeral home or St. Mary's or donate to Artic Dog rescue? We loved the picture of Melissa with the huskies/wolves, malamutes?? We had a 95 pound malamute that we had to put down at 13 years of age because his rear legs just totally gave out on him that we miss very much, and my daughter, Wendy has a 12 year old huskie/wolf that she bought in Talkeetna, Alaska!! We understand how much those dogs mean to us!! John, give me a call (801 828 6271) after 1 pm today (I am in clinic this morning) or text me about any other service we might attend for Melissa to offer our condolences. All of our love to you and the family! Harry and Sandra

I was so sorry to learn of Melissa's death. I remember Melissa from her time at Rhodes and as my student in our 2nd term core bio lecture. She was one of my best students in that very large class that year. My best wishes and condolences to her family.

Dear Mr. Herbst and family, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your dear Melissa and send you my sincere condolences. The passing of a loved one can leave us feeling lost and heartbroken. But I've found very comforting words in God's word, the Bible. At Psalms 55:22, God promises to sustain those who throw their burden upon Him. God will also do away with death all together as brought out at Revelation 21:4. The bible also holds out the hope of a resurrection of those who have fallen asleep in death at Acts 24:15. May Jehovah, the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our trials (2 Corinthians 1:3,4), comfort you in your time of need. Heartfelt prayers are with your family.

I am so sorry to hear about Melissa;s passing. I believe she is now reunited with her mom. She sure did give it a fight. I have the utmost respect for Melissa. Though she was enduring such hard times she never let her patients down. She was a great, smart and compassionate doctor and her patients loved her. I had the pleasure of working with Melissa at MFM.Rest in peace sweet lady. You really will be missed!!!

While talking to another MFM physician yesterday who does locums work, she happened to mention Melissa's passing. I had no idea until yesterday that she was gone. Melissa was one tough woman! I admired her strength, diligence, talent, generosity, and dignity. I thought the battle had been won. She deserved to win and fought with all her might. I was so saddened to hear the news. May her family and loved ones be blessed and her dogs well cared for. Goodbye Melissa.
