Michael Andre Matthews
November 1, 1966 - September 18, 2023
“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful” -Psalm 1:1
It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the passing of our blessed and beloved husband, father, papa, deacon, and friend, Michael Andre “Miracle Mike” Matthews, who was called home to be with our Lord on September 18, 2023.
Michael “Miracle Mike” Matthews, son of Mr. Jimmy and Mrs. Beatrice Matthews, was born on November 1, 1966, in Bosco, Louisiana. He graduated from Grambling State University in 1988 with a degree in Accounting. Mike was later recruited to work in the accounting department of JCPenney, where he moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1988. In that same year, Miracle Mike met the loves of his life, Lizzie Diane, and their daughter, Megan Hill. Throughout his life, Mike spent time living in Louisiana, Utah, Germany, California, Texas, and Michigan. Through his work, Mike was able to travel the world, meet people, explore new places, and experience a life people only dream of. He truly lived in the now. Through his travels he was able to become a Million Miler on Delta Airlines.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night” – Psalm 1:2
Brother Matthews was a devoted husband, father, papa, family man, and a very successful businessman who touched many hearts with his kind and gentle nature. Mike, Deacon, Brother Matthews, and Andre as some lovingly called him, led by a great Christian example in all of his earthly relationships. Anyone who knew him has a warm and memorable story to tell of how he left a positive impact on their lives.
“And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper” – Psalm 1:3
Brother Matthews was a man who lived a prosperous life as a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and chairman of the deacon board. He also had a successful career as a businessman. Above all, he lived as a devout man of God. As a devoted family man, when Miracle Mike wasn’t cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, or watching episodes of Judge Judy, he was spending time with his family and friends.
Michael Andre Matthews is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Lizzie Diane of West Jordan, Utah, daughter, Megan, son-in-law Billy Hill III and granddaughter, Briella Indigo of Houston, Texas. His parents – Mr. Jimmy and Mrs. Beatrice Matthews of Bosco, Louisiana; and mother-in-law Rozena Harris of West Valley, Utah. Siblings – Brother Troy and wife Jnette Matthews of San Antonio, Texas, and Sister Beverly Stanley of Monroe, Louisiana. Nephews – Charles Stanley of Monroe, Louisiana; Spencer Stanley and fiancé Janá of Nashville, Tennessee; Avery Stanley of Nashville, Tennessee. Diane, my deepest condolences go out to you and Megan. Mike was genuine, kind, and honorable mam. He fought a good fight with his family by his side. I'm sure that he wanted to soak in all of your love before going on to Glory. May God continue to be with you as you walk on this journey without the love of your life beside you. Take care Diane and Megan. Much love, Carol Shifflett.

A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth. It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of every man; the living should take this to heart. Ecclesiastes 7:1-2 My cousin fought the good fight and now he can rest and reap the reward of living a Godly life! For those living, there is still time to change, time to examine the direction of your live. May our God provide comfort to the family during this difficult time. Sending my condolences, thoughts, and prayers. Uncle Andre was always there even when he wasn’t physically there. He was regularly asking about what was going on and made sure he was there when he could be. When we crossed passed it felt like no time had gone by. The last time we spent a good amount of time together, he was watching over me in Bosco. I was 16. We talked for a couple of hours just about life and what comes next. I’m grateful for that time and the love he showed. That love isn’t limited to his time on Earth, it carries over onto all he has loved. You are missed Uncle Andre.
