Michael Benson
January 26, 1981 - January 16, 2023
On January 16, 2023, our most beloved husband, father, son, and brother was taken from us far too soon due to a tragic accident.
Michael was born in Salt Lake City to his parents Mike and Dixie. He was raised in West Valley City, attended Granger High School where he played football, and graduated in 1999. He kind of fell into his profession of driver, getting his CDL so he could deliver parts for Ferguson. He then became a bar guy for M&M Distributing (Coors), delivering his favorite beverage around the valley. During his time there, he met and started dating the “office girl” Marlena, and they instantly became inseparable. He moved on to deliver fuel to Kennecott for Sinclair, their iconic symbol eventually giving him the nickname “daddy dinosaur” by his daughter.
Michael and Marlena were blessed with their beautiful girl Charlie in 2014, and were married in 2015, overlooking gorgeous Dead Horse Point in Moab. Michael became the most devoted husband and father, his family becoming his greatest joy. They enjoyed being in nature by camping, hiking, visiting the beautiful places that Utah has to offer. Most importantly, they loved spending time with family and friends. Michael always had a cooler of beer, ready to share with anyone who would have a drink and talk with him, his favorite season being anytime he could wear shorts and flip-flops. Michael's favorite past time was playing golf, continually working on improving his game, but it was more about getting to play with those he loved.
Michael was one of those people whose presence instantly put you at ease. His chill demeanor, contagious smile, and ability to make people laugh was so endearing to so many. He made friends easily, maybe because he was so good at accepting and loving people for who they are that they couldn't help but be drawn in by his pure soul and kind heart. He will be so desperately missed by so many, leaving a void that will never be filled. We know his beautiful soul is all around us, taking care of us from the other side now.
Mike leaves behind a heartbroken family; his wife Marlena Benson, daughter Charlie Benson, parents Mike G. Benson, Dixie (Randy) Destromp, sisters Audra Benson, Kristen (Geoff) Nestegard, step-siblings Megan, Miles and Mallory Destromp, his in-laws, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends who all adored him.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East , Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the parking and entrance on the north side of the building.
In lieu of flowers, please consider spending it on your loved ones, tell them how much they mean to you, and hold them tight.
In Loving Memory
