Michael Craig Mackintosh

November 19, 1948 - June 9, 2025

Michael Craig Mackintosh passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, in Mesa, Arizona, at the age of 76. Born on November 19, 1948, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Mike lived a life defined by hard work, integrity, and devotion to his family.

A graduate of West High School, Mike began his career in the skilled trades, completing a four-year apprenticeship to become a journeyman sheet metal worker, followed by another four-year apprenticeship to become a journeyman pipefitter. He was a lifelong member of UA Local 140 Plumbers, Pipefitters, and HVAC&R, and worked out of UA Local 469 in Phoenix prior to retirement.

Mike’s career took him and his family across the U.S. and internationally in construction management roles during the 1980s and 1990s. His expertise contributed to the development of power plants, semiconductor plants, and medical research facilities for companies like Honeywell, Intel, Motorola, and Arizona State University. His work took him to Washington, Illinois, Louisiana, California, Oregon, New Mexico, Stuttgart, Germany, and ultimately Mesa, Arizona, where he and his wife, Susan, made their home in 1995.

Mike had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and shooting sports. He was an avid hunter of deer, elk, duck, and pheasant, and had a lifelong love for Lake Powell, where he spent countless trips with family and friends over the past 50 years. He especially cherished his 1991 SeaRay, which he meticulously maintained and loved dearly— so much that it’s a running family joke there may be more picture of the boat than Mike himself in the family album.

A natural engineer and craftsman, Mike had an intuitive understanding of how things worked—be it engines, HVAC systems, or computers. There was little he couldn’t fix or improve. He rebuilt truck motors, tinkered endlessly on his SeaRay, and even engineered a custom cooling solution for his 5th wheel trailer refrigerator. Everything Mike touched bore the mark of his ingenuity, precision, and pride of ownership.

Above all, Mike was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was “our rock”—dependable, calm under pressure, and always ready with sound advice, a well-timed joke, or a quiet show of support. He treated others with empathy and compassion. He led with principle, prioritized family, and demonstrated honesty and resilience. Even through health challenges, he remained steadfast and optimistic, a testament to his strength and spirit.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Wally and Betty Mackintosh, and his beloved son, Blaine Mackintosh. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Susan Mackintosh; his son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Mackintosh and Jamie Mackintosh; former daughter-in-law, Tammy Hansen Klingler; and his cherished grandsons, Taylor, Connor, Presley, and Maddox. He is also survived by his brothers, Scott Mackintosh, Brent Mackintosh, and Cory Mackintosh.

Mike was deeply loved and respected. We love you, Gramps, and we will miss you always.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 11th from 6-8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S 900 E, SLC. Guests are encouraged to use the entrance and parking on the north side of the building. Share your memories at www.starksfuneral.com

I met Mike while chasing girls around Rose Park with Mike Mark and Scott Erskine. He was a at a dance in Memory Grove with Chris Beeny. Chris needed a ride home and Mike told her to get in the brown 57 Chevy and the guy who owned it would give her a ride home. That was my car and Chris and I have been married for 58 years - thanks Mike. RIP
