Michael G. Perry

August 17, 1962 - January 21, 2022

With heavy hearts, we mourn the unexpected passing of our beloved Dad, Papa, brother, uncle and friend, Michael Perry, on January 21, 2022 at the young age of 59 years old.

He was born on August 17, 1962 in Provo, UT. He attended Granite High School in South Salt Lake where he was a member of the Ski Club and President of the Drama Club. He performed in many skits, plays and musicals, where he met his first wife, Teresa. Together they had two daughters, Lisa and Jamie. They were later divorced.  A few years after that he met his second wife, Elaine, while delivering flowers to the hospital gift shop where she worked. Together they had two daughters, Jessica and Erin.

Mike loved his family. He was the greatest cheerleader there ever was. At any event his kids or grandkids participated in you could hear him cheering them on over the noise of the crowd. He loved being a grandpa and his grandkids loved being with him. Some of their greatest memories are camping and fishing with Papa Mike.

He was extremely talented and passionate about his next project. He made amazing birdhouses, picture frames, bird feeders etc. out of old wood. He created an amazing waterfall with a stream leading to a koi pond in his backyard. He also took urban gardening to a whole new level and shared his bounteous harvest with those around him.

Mike had a huge heart! He was always willing to help anyone in need. He was the first one there to offer help to any family member, neighbor, friend, or complete strangers he would meet on the street. He was very friendly and gifted with the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone.

In October 2015, he pursued a dream he had always had — to live in Hawaii. He spent 4 months living at a wellness retreat where he gardened and took care of the grounds. He fell even more in love with the island during his time there.

He loved hiking with his dogs and took them on an adventure almost every day. It wasn’t uncommon for them to spend the entire day up
Millcreek Canyon.

He had recently joined a community of woodworkers that reignited his passion for woodworking and creating beautiful art. He hosted classes and loved helping the other members of the community with their projects.

He leaves behind his heartbroken daughters— Lisa (Preston), Jessica, and Erin; his grandsons— Parker, Perry, Paxton, and Porter; his brothers—Steve (Martie), and Bob (Tammy); his dogs— Sam, Buddy, Lola, and Squirt, and many other family and friends who loved and cherished him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Juanita Perry, his daughter, Jamie, and his dogs Roxi and Sassy.

A memorial for him will be held on Monday, January 31st from 6pm to 8pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S 900 E, Millcreek, UT 84106.

In Loving Memory

Mike was a man with dreams as big as the universe!!! I learned so many things from this man...I remember while he was in Hawaii we would face time and talk about how all we had to do is follow our hearts and do what we want and everything else would fall into place. Most times it was pitch black and he would say how crazy the sounds at night would be. Almost every night I would wait for his call. I loved mike like a brother and I'm truly sorry. This world has lost a man of all men! He will never be replaced but will always be remembered. If there is anything I can do please don't hesitate to contact me.

Saying Aloha to a friend is never an easy thing, especially when that friend was so full of life. Mike was one of the kindest souls I ever met. He use to say I had it all figured out because I did what made me happy and just let the universe fill in the blanks. It makes me sad that I will never get to talk to him again or laugh with him. Mike was always supportive of everyone no matter what. In all honesty I learned a lot from him, he could be happy anywhere and I admire him for that. His sense of adventure and love for the outdoors was something that we both shared and made our friendship simple but irreplaceable. I am happy that he is free to roam anywhere now and knowing that his journey is nowhere near over. I will miss you my friend. Sending Aloha. A Hui Hou ( until our paths intertwine ) my brother.
