Michael Joseph Carbona

Michael "Mickey" Joseph Carbona
(Perfili, Kilgore)
1946 – 2015
Our amazing and incredibly loving Mike "Mickey" Carbona passed away New Year's day after a valiant fight with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois to loving, Italian parents Michael and Frances (Maratea) Carbona.
Mike "Mickey" joined the US Navy in 1969. After several years in the US Navy, he settled in Salt Lake City, Utah where he raised his family.
We're all so grateful for his kindness, generosity and sense of humor. His sense of humor had others constantly laughing to the point of tears. He was our funny guy. We're all so blessed to have had him in our lives. He loved train trips around the country, riding his motorcycle, going to car shows with his rat rod, new adventures and music. He loved his blended family most of all. He always made himself available to help others and always worked incredibly hard.
His favorite meal was spaghetti and meatballs. He asked if there would be spaghetti and meatballs in heaven to eat and he was serious. That's why he may have hung on so long, because he was not sure if there really would be spaghetti and meatballs in heaven.
Within one year of being diagnosed with ALS, he was completely paralyzed. He was a brave man who never complained about the constant and ever changing daily challenges related to ALS.
His loving family: amazing wife and caretaker Jackie Perfili; children Mario (Martha), Angelo (Gwyn), Dominic (Steph), Vito (Harvest); mother of his boys Denise Fells; children Jessica Kilgore (Apryl), William Kilgore (Lisa), Suzannah Kilgore Welch (Doug), Danna Kilgore Nibre (Jose); grandchildren Malia, Nicole, Braden, Bella, Mckenzie, Jaxson, Jag, Alexis, Kayden, Kade, Drew, Emma, Kaitlynn, Doug, Jake, Gunner; Sister Annette Caduto (Robert); Brother Guy (Dee); nieces Michelle, Christina.
A special thank you from the bottom of our hearts to Al Perfili and Jeri Perfili Carrico for committing every night to him, Applegate Hospice, all the CNA girls and nurses that loved and cared for him, Anne Huskinson, the VA staff and Dr. Bromberg and his team at the University of Utah Neurosciences Clinic. They all made life so much easier. Also, a special thanks to his best of friends from SMG engineering department James, Bill, Josh, Jeremy and all others for not forgetting him.
God bless and help all people suffering with such horrible diseases and their caretakers. Lets find a cure for ALS.
Thank you, thank you, Mike "Mickey" for being wonderful you. Love you forever and always. We're going to miss you so much. Ciao, until we meet again. XOXO
