Michael R. Ellerbeck

January 28, 1954 - November 13, 2018

Michael Richard Ellerbeck passed away on November 13, 2018 after a long fight with cancer.
Mike was born on January 28, 1954 to Thomas Richard Ellerbeck and Beverly Ann Bever. He grew up in Olympus Cove with his two brothers, Ken and Scott. He graduated from Skyline High School and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Utah. Mike’s life-long career at Salt Lake Monument began in 1974. He loved to duck hunt, watch baseball games (all ages, all levels!), attend concerts, visit the cabin, and play his favorite 60’s and 70’s rock on his numerous guitars. He enjoyed playing music with the Brown Dog Band, with neighbors, in spontaneous jams, and by himself. He cared for the environment and his fellow man and contributed to many causes. He loved his family and looked forward to family gatherings with his children, their spouses, and grandchildren.
Mike leaves behind his wife, Angela Wood, his children and their spouses, Alisha and Justin Daniels, Bryon and Shazell Ellerbeck, TJ Ellerbeck and Stephanie Pearce, and Mica Ellerbeck; his grandchildren Olive and Opal Daniels, and Ender Ellerbeck; his brother and his spouse, Scott and Debby Ellerbeck; and his former wife and long-time business partner, Connie Jackson Ellerbeck. He was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Bev, his brother Ken, and John Lennon and George Harrison.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Starks Funeral Parlor on Friday November 30, from 6:00 to 8:00pm located at 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. The funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday December 1, at the LDS Meetinghouse located at 4th Avenue and P Street in Salt Lake City. Guests may come at 10:00am to view pictures from Mike’s life.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Huntsman Cancer Hospital, the University of Utah Hospital, and Rocky Mountain Hospice for the wonderful tender care given through Mike’s final years.

To all of Mike's family, I was shocked to hear of Mike's passing. Nate, Buck and I had lunch with hm on October 16th. He seemed to be doing well and was still committed to beating the cancer. We had many great times playing softball and I will always remember them. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

So timely that I ran into Leonard and Tina to learn - so sadly - of Mike's illness in late October. Since we had left R Street where we became friends, we had lost touch with Mike, our great neighbor across the street and also down 4th Avenue. The world was a great place to be when we knew Mike was here. What a loss to all of us. Our profound sympathies to his family. Thank you for the photos and music which captured the goodness and happiness of Mike. Our best regards.

Dear Family - Please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of your dear Mike. I have lost a dear friend with his passing. It has been an honor to get to know Mike, and you all through the company, and I so appreciate your kindness and continued support to me through the years. How fortunate I have been to be welcomed in to your lives, and I know Steve would have said the same. Enough can not be said about Mike's respect, honesty and compassion to those who passed through the door of SL Monument. Hugs and love to you all and big scratches to my pal Boog, too.

May the Family know that Jesus Christ spoke some words about those who have died but will be awakened back to life again and the words can be found in John 5:28,29 to where we find him giving us a Guarrantee that he will resurrect all of our dead loved ones back to life again and then after they are brought back to life, they will be able to enjoy an endless life as it is described in the Bible at Psalm 37:29 which reads: The righteous will possess the earth and they will live forever on it. So may these words bring some real comfort in the coming days.

I worked for Mike (and Elias Morris) while in school and have great memories of him and Connie from those days. He was funny, fair and, most importantly, the guy who introduced me to Roy Buchanan. Mike loooooved duck hunting. And talking about duck hunting. And trying to get us to take home some fresh duck. Worked once.  Love you Mike. Please accept my best wishes and condolances.   Jim Davis SLC
