Mildred E. Gallagher
March 8, 1932 - November 20, 2021
Our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, neighbor, and friend, Mildred E. “Millie” Gallagher, passed away peacefully with her son, Bill, and daughter, Susan, by her side holding her hands just after midnight on Saturday, November 20, 2021.
Millie was born on March 8, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY to Mildred and Robert “Bob” Parker. She married William G. “Bill” Gallagher on September 30, 1951 at The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Ozone Park, NY. They were married for 27 happy years until his death at age 48 in March,1979.
She is survived by her children William M. “Bill” Gallagher, Susan E. Valentini (Remo), and Richard R. “Rick” Gallagher (Tricia); grandchildren Ginamarie Freebairn (Matt), Erin Gallagher (Todd Alster), and David Zaldivar; and great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Zachary Freebairn, Talon, Titan and Teegan Valentini, and Grace Zaldivar; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and good friends.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Bob, and many other loved relatives and friends.
She had many jobs during her lifetime. Her favorites were as a secretary at Pan American World Airways at JFK Airport in Queens, NY, as an executive secretary at Chase Manhattan Bank in the Financial District of New York City, NY, as an executive secretary at Zions Bank in Salt Lake City, UT, and as a receptionist and volunteer at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Cottonwood Heights, UT.
Millie lived in Brooklyn and in Ozone Park, NY for the first 62 years of her life until she relocated to Utah after her retirement from Chase Manhattan Bank in September, 1994. She thrilled at seeing the skyscrapers of downtown Manhattan when she went to work everyday. She also loved going to the Atlantic Ocean and Jamaica Bay beaches of the Rockaways and Coney Island and to the mountains in the foothills of the Catskills during the summer. When she moved to Utah, she came to love the beauty of the Wasatch Mountains and the National Parks in the south.
She loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all her relatives, friends, and neighbors past and present, and they loved her. She was fun-loving and loved to laugh. She was a good Catholic and she loved all the priests, deacons, staff, and members of St. Thomas More Parish with whom she worked and prayed. She enjoyed going to Bingo, the Lenten fish fries, the Days of Yore, and other celebrations and social events. Millie was a people person!
Millie's family would like to thank the doctor, nurses, physician assistants, aides, social workers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, massage therapist, music therapist, chaplain, volunteers and staff of Valeo Home Health & Hospice for the loving care they gave to her for many months and for the love and support they gave to us. We would also like to thank the owners and staff of Starks Funeral Parlor, Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, and Father John Evans, Nora Kennedy, and the staff of St. Thomas More Parish for helping us arrange her funeral services.

Friends may greet her family at 5:00 PM on Sunday, November 28, 2021 and a Vigil Prayer Service will begin at 6:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 29,2021 at 12:00 Noon followed by interment at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 E. Bengal Blvd., Cottonwood Heights, UT.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Humane Society of Utah where Millie adopted her cat, Calli, who was a very dear companion to her.
In Loving Memory
Dear Bill & Susan, I just found the obituary for your mom. I am so sorry for your loss! Millie was a delight to know & such a sweet lady. I don't know if you remember me visiting her in Sandy after I retired from Chase. We had a great time & I remember her fondly. I know she's at peace now. Sincerely, Terry Antonelli
