Miriam Kathryn 'Kaye' 'Katie' Haymond
May 5, 1942 - April 6, 2023
Kaye passed away April 6, 2023, in Holladay, Utah. She was born May 5, 1942, to Vernon and Evelyn Hardy in Salt Lake City, Utah. She spent her younger years in Garfield before moving to Magna and spent her teenage summers working on a family friends ranch in Idaho which she talked about fondly and often, it always held such a special place in her heart. Kaye graduated from Cyprus High School then went on to attend college at the University of Utah where she was a member of PI BETA PHI. She stayed loyal to her Utes to the very end.
Kaye married (later divorced) Ronald Haymond. They had two children, Shellie, and Doug. Kaye loved skiing, golfing, puzzles, travel, camping, reading, history, slot machines, ladybugs, animals, nightly gelato with Peter, her Utah Jazz, and especially her Utah Utes. But most of all she loved her family and friends and being a grandma was her greatest joy, she was so proud of her boys and the men they had become. Her favorite place to be was at her family cabin where she not only grew up, but she was able to share it with her children and grandsons. And because of her love for the cabin her family will continue to grow and enjoy it for many more years to come. Kaye spent her career with the State of Utah DHRM where she met her lifetime companion and love Felix McGowan. They were together for 41 years before Fee passed in 2020. They took such care of each other and spent as much time on adventures with family and friends as they possibly could. They knew how to have fun.
Kaye was blessed to have so many friends that stayed with her throughout her life. From her Man Hater family (they really didn’t hate them but sure were mad at one here or there) and with them laughter was always the cure. To her St George family where adventures, slots, and margaritas were always on the agenda. She had a big heart, beautiful smile, and could match wits with the best of them. She was loved by so many.
She is survived by her daughter Shellie (Debbie) Haymond, grandsons Noah Haymond, Joshua Haymond, great grandsons Rayden Snyder-Warenski, Carter Snyder-Warenski, bonus sons Peter Bigelow and Scott McGowan, brother Ted Hardy, sister-in-law Sherry Haymond, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son Doug Haymond, life partner Felix McGowan, sister Florence (Gerry) Bertagnole, sister-in-law Judy Hardy, ex-husband Ron Haymond, parents, and grandparents.
The family would like to thank Dignity Home Health & Hospice and their staff, especially Stephanie and Danielle for their kindness and love of Kaye. Their care of Kaye was a blessing to her and to us all.
As per her wishes, Kaye was cremated and her ashes will be spread in her favorite places. A Celebration of Life with be held on Saturday April 22, 2023, from 4:00 – 6:00pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S 900 E Millcreek.
