Morris R. Warpness
January 8, 1940 - January 20, 2024
Morris R. Warpness, 81, passed away after a hard fought battle with COPD on January 22nd, 2024.
Morris was born in Lander, Wyoming on January 8th, 1940 to Wilma and Morris Warpness. He grew up in a timber camp with his mother, father and younger brother, Norman (Skip). Morris attended engineering school in Denver, Colorado immediately following graduation.
His childhood was full of adventures, such as working on ranches at the young age of 8 years old. He followed ranchers and learned all aspects of ranch life including rolling his own cigarettes. He developed interests in working on car engines and this skill became his main interest and ultimately the means of support for his family. He was drafted at the age of 18 and served 2 years in the United States Army. While in training, he earned a sharpshooter's medal and was shipped overseas to Okinawa, Japan, where he was stationed on a missile base. Three months after his release, he was married to Stephanie Katherine. They had a son, Anthony. Anthony brought immeasurable joy and love to their life. They lost their beautiful son at the young age of 20 in a tragic kayak accident. Morris loved fishing, any type of fishing. After a battle with alcoholism, Morris sobered on May 19, 1999 and was an active member of Alcoholic's Anonymous for over 24 years. He was baptized and confirmed by Father John Norman.
Morris is survived by his wife, Stephanie, his son, Tino and his wife Sun-Hee and their son, Theo; his brother, Skip and his sister in law, Peggy and her daughters, Lillian and Rose.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 31st at 11:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 East Spring Lane, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Special thanks to Jason and Shayneh Starks for their thoughtful help during this time.
