Nanette Nancy Ferguson
February 17, 1937 - October 29, 2022
Our mother, Nanette (“Nancy”), passed away on October 29, 2022, after a long loving life and brief illness. Nancy was born on February 17, 1935, to Marguerite and Leslie Marsell, and was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Marilyn (Childs), and her husband Lloyd. Nancy and her parents were life-long Christian Scientists.
She went to South High School and the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. In her early life she enjoyed the outdoors, Girl Scouts, summers working in Yellowstone N.P., and harmony singing with her parents during road trips. She liked to sing and play the piano, including for Sunday School at the First Church, Christ Scientist.
She worked for many years as a children’s librarian in the public schools in Sandy, and then with the SLC Public Library, primarily at the Sprague Branch in Sugarhouse and the Anderson-Foothill Branch. She was a reader and organizer at the First and Second CS churches in SLC. She enjoyed car travel especially around Utah and the Western U.S., in conjunction with Lloyd’s fly fishing expeditions, often reading her church lesson or children’s books, novels and non-fiction or looking after her children.
At home, in addition to her reading, she especially enjoyed PBS British comedies and Masterpiece Theater. After retiring, she took up the accordion and joined the Swiss Chorus Edelweiss, and spent time traveling with her sister Marilyn. She loved to play the daily crosswords and Scrabble, and have post-church Sunday brunch at The Red Iguana. We appreciate the care and companionship she recently received from Brightstar Care, Pacifica Millcreek Senior Living, Highland Care Center, and Tender Care Hospice.
She is survived by her children Karen (Sam Campasano, deceased), David, Heidi, Heather and Jonathan (Diana Marinos). A private service will be held in the future. Donations in Nancy’s memory to Friends of the City Library (SLC) or the Utah Chapter of The Sierra Club, or a non-profit or charity of your choosing, are greatly appreciated.
In Loving Memory
Nancy was a dear friend and beloved member of our church. It is unusual privilege when someone quite a bit older becomes not just a mentor but a friend. For many years, I picked her up for mid-week services and we had a chance to talk about everything from gardening to politics to her shared love of ADPi with my Mom. Nancy was an outward thinker, rather than being self-focused. She was funny and charming. And I admired her deep love of God. Love and condolences to her family.

We met Nancy through her membership at the Clhrlistian Science Church. Gary was the organist at the First Church and currently the organist at the second church. Nancy was a member of both. She was also so sweet, kind and loving. We will miss her. We wish her family peace at this time

I met Nancy many years ago when friends with her husband Lloyd at FPC and we became fast friends. I went to hear her choir out at Swiss Days in Midway often. She was delightful and we had that love of singing in common. I sure missed seeing her at the Kirkin o' th' Tartan this year. We will all miss her. My heart goes out to the whole family.

Dear Ferguson Family: it was with sadness that I learned of Nancy's passing today. She was one of my longest-term friends, other than family, as we go all the way back to Girl Scouts, then ADPi in college, and I was honored to be a bridesmaid when she and Lloyd were married. When ADPis were meeting monthly for lunch, we often went together, and enjoyed all our longtime memories. She was so proud of her children and their accomplishments, and supported Lloyd in his many undertakings. My heart goes out to you her family, as I know she will be missed. I look forward to seeing at a future memorial. In love, Bonnie
