Nannette H. Morgan

Nan Morgan, age 82, passed away unexpectedly on the evening of January 14, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born in Pontiac, Michigan, to Fred and Betty Hammond, Mom grew up in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, with her four siblings, Fritzie, Jim, Rick, and Bill. While growing up, she developed a love for horses and rode often. She also enjoyed water and snow skiing, and it was her love of the mountains that led her to attend college at the University of Colorado, Boulder. After college, she ski bummed in Winter Park, Colorado, and Alta, Utah, working at the Peruvian Lodge.

After spending three months in Europe, she returned to Michigan and met her soulmate, Don. Married in 1959, they embarked on a lifetime journey raising their four children, traveling the world, and making countless friends. Dad’s career sent the family around the country, eventually landing in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where Nan spent her days running a household of young kids, spending many hours with the Junior League, and becoming an avid golfer and tennis player.

After Dad retired in 1989, they settled in Park City, Utah, to be closer to the kids and grandkids. Mom was a devout Catholic and an enthusiastic volunteer. Over the years, she donated countless hours to Meals on Wheels and the American Red Cross.

Mom was headstrong, opinionated, and uncompromisingly forthright. She never failed to speak her mind, and no one ever doubted what she was thinking or where they stood with her. She loved fiercely, believed deeply, and lived her life her way. A curious and generous soul, Mom had an uncanny knack for making friends wherever she went, and they were better off for knowing her. Most of those friends were also the lucky recipients of her famous fudge.

Mom is survived by her four children, Mike (Cindy), Jim (Anne), Bill (Liz), and Kathy (Matt), 14 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, who recently passed away, and a son who died soon after birth. Mom recently said that she lived a long and wonderful life and was eager to join her husband and son in heaven.
