Nehleh Carol Bailey

“Nuni”

Nuni passed away peacefully in her home on March 6, 2011 surrounded by the love of her family.  She faced her cancer with unmatched courage, dignity and grace.

She was born on October 16, 1964 at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah to Carol and Nazih Mahmood.  She grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from the University of Utah with a BA in English.  She met the love of her life, Clint Bailey, in 1985 and they married on August 28, 1993.  They made their home together in Millcreek and had a son, Anthony, on June 13, 1996.

Nuni and Clint were season ticket holders to the Salt Lake Bees, where they enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships that came from attending the games.  She loved animals and was a supporter of the Humane Society.  Nuni found pleasure in planting a vegetable garden each year. She started each day solving the Jumble from the newspaper with her father.  Nuni enjoyed a good party but never needed to be the center of attention.  She was intelligent, quick-witted and humorous; people found her to be a good listener in a world of talkers.

Nuni was a devoted homemaker; her son Anthony was the center of her life.  She loved spending time in the park with him on picnics, flying kites and taking him to see new places.  Nuni and her mother shared special memories taking him to see Yellowstone and Southern Utah.  She focused on the sublime moments she found in each day and in this way her life was full of beauty.

During her early life, Nuni spent many summers in Daytona Beach, Florida, where the ocean found a special place in her heart.  Because of this love, she wished her ashes to be scattered at sea.

Nuni leaves behind her husband Clint; her son Anthony, whom she adored; her loving mother Carol Winkler; her devoted father Nazih Mahmood; her brother Omar, who depended on her for support and advice; maternal grandmother Rosemary Winkler; her in-laws Shirley and Robert “Tobe” Bailey; and her beloved cat Tigger, who brought her endless amounts of comfort, especially during her illness.

Preceded in death by her maternal grandfather Charles Winkler, and both of her paternal grandparents Naziha Zeki and Mohammed A. Mahmood.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Nuni to the Huntsman Cancer Institute at www.huntsmancancerfoundation.org

Dear Clint, Anthony Carol and Nazih, Imagine my shock and sadness when I opened the papers this Sunday to find Nehleh's obituary. I have had the pleasure of knowing your family or 11 yrs as customers at my restaurant and as friends. Nehleh always had a beautiful smile and kind words to everyone. She will be missed. Ali Sabbah
