Neil David Stack
October 21, 1947 - December 27, 2014
Neil David Stack
Loving Husband, Father & Grandfather
Neil died suddenly Saturday, December 27, 2014 after receiving a diagnosis of acute leukemia just one day prior.
He was born October 21, 1947 in Great Falls, MT to Harold and Maybelle (Bury) Stack. He graduated from Great Falls Central High School where he was the quarterback of the football team. Neil was the fastest and made the most tackles (so he says). He was also an accomplished basketball player. When he later had sons and a grandson, he spent thousands of hours coaching and teaching athletics for their teams. He never stopped coaching.
He graduated from Montana State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. It was at college that he was spotted by Terry Crowley, who was particularly drawn to his pocket protecter and slide rule. She chased him all over Montana until they married on May 29, 1971.
After spending ten years in California, the family settled in Utah. Neil started with Salt Lake County and held various positions within the Public Works Department and retired in March of 2010 as the Division Director, Public Works Engineering, for Salt Lake County. Neil was very well-respected by his colleagues.
Neil was an avid golfer and a proud "Golf-aholic" member. He also enjoyed cooking and after his retirement he had dinner waiting for Terry on the table every night. They also loved to garden and read together. He was very active at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
Neil was a constant support and provider to his family. He was also competitive, wise and was often sought after for his advice and a very loving man.
He leaves behind his wife of 43 years Terry Stack; sons Ryan and Tyler; grandson Aiden; granddaughter Lola; brothers Dennis (Karol) and Jon. Preceded in death by his parents and his brother Tom.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 3rd at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 East Creek Road, where friends may visit the family an hour prior. A wake will be held on Friday, January 2nd from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, also at the church. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent School Scholarship Fund or St. Thomas More. Arrangements entrusted to Starks Funeral Parlor. Online condolences may be offered at www.starksfuneral.com

I had the honor of knowing Neil for such a short time as we were members of the "Les Buffons" in 1969 at MSU. He was truly an honorable man and friend. Will keep his family and friends in my prayers. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.

My sincere condolences to the Neal family. May you find comfort in your loving memories, and in God's promise to soon "swallow up death forever" and "wipe away the tears from all faces." (Isaiah 25;8) While grief at the loss of Neil is great, joy at welcoming him back in the earthly resurrection will be greater. (Mark 5;42) With deepest sympathy
