Osvaldo Nicholas Lopez
December 23, 1935 - September 20, 2021
Together Again
On September 20, 2021, Osvaldo quietly passed away at 85 years of age, in his home, surrounded by family, in Murray, Utah.
Osvaldo was born in 1935 in Chile. He was the oldest son born to Ricardo and Virginia Lopez.
Osvaldo loved motorcycles and model railroading. From a young age, he owned a variety of different bikes and the stories that he shared with his family were of grand adventure and escape! He often was caught pushing the limits with his motorbikes, so much so, that his future wife made him decide between a future with motorcycles or a future with her! Fortunately for his children, he chose his future wife. Once motorcycles were no longer in his life, he turned to model railroading creating intricte landscaping and tracks that provided him with hours of fun and entertainment.
Osvaldo and his wife, Aida, moved from Chile to California in 1964. Their families had been friends since Osvaldo was ten and Aida was two years old. One of the family stories was that Osvaldo was forced to spend hours listening to Aida’s piano recitals when he was just a boy.
Osvaldo’s wife, Aida, was an elementary school teacher, so after Osvaldo retired as a tool and die maker, he started volunteering at her school, helping her children with holiday arts and crafts.
He still had the spirit of great adventure in him and once, he just hit the road with a cousin and drove to wherever the road led them. He loved taking the family on camping trips to the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and other national parks. He loved his family very much and would spend hours supporting his children as they pursued different activities and interest.
Osvaldo is preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years Aida, by his parents and by his brother, Marcelo.
His children, Pamela (John) MacDonald and Albert (Shona) Lopez, his sister, Carmina, his four grandchildren, Lauren, Mauricio, Kami and Alicia, and two great grandchildren will miss him greatly.
Many thanks to the staff at Heartwood Home Health Care and Hospice and Home Care Assistance for all their loving care.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 11:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 East Spring Lane, Salt Lake City. He will be laid to rest next to his wife in the columbarium at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Avenue and “T” Street, Salt Lake City.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that financial donations be made in his name to the favorite charity of your choice.
In Loving Memory
Aida and I were teaching colleagues. It was such a treat to visit and your parents home. She introduced me to Quince. Believe they had a quince tree in the yard. They were delightful couple
