Paisley Dot Knapp
August 23, 2022 - October 29, 2025
Our Pais was born (and I think we all can hear her say this next part) “August twenty third, twenty twenty-two.” No parent should have to write this next part. This is going to be us talking with our Paisley. As you read this please tell Paisley all of your favorite memories. But first I need to give you another promise Pais. We promise Paisley that we will continue your fight. We all have said during your entire cancer journey we wanted to trade places with you. We did that the day your soul needed to leave your body. No more pain or fear for you. Let us take the burden and pain completely from you. You will always be the bravest person we all know. You are our Mighty Dot. You had to mature well beyond your earthly age. You had so much responsibility that was so unfair. You get to be a kid now. Your soul is safe and strong for eternity my baby.
Paisley we love a list so long of attributes about you it will never end. Your personality from the day you were born is so vibrant. Your feistiness gets you far and makes for some really funny arguments. You make friends everywhere we go. Daddy and I are always awkward talking to strangers but you make sure we still do. I never have to teach you something twice. Your memory and logical thinking impresses everyone around you. Our talks are always more in depth than even our talks with other adults. Your imagination is just beginning. We got to see that a lot through your art. Your dancing is my absolute favorite. Your singing makes everyone smile instantaneously. The songs you come up with are so original. For someone so young you keep rhythm so well. You are non-stop joking and teasing. I have a video of you at 6 months old faking sleep in my arms then you pop your cute little head up and smile so big at me. You do that again and again in the video and you laugh more and more each time. Your laugh makes everyone around you laugh. Your eyes are so gorgeous and full of wonder for the world they see. Your eyes have always been the first thing people see. You have always been a bookworm. It is never just one more book at bedtime. You convince us at least to read three more. I think that is where you get your large vocabulary from. You speak quite clearly even with a binky in your mouth. You did not babble much as a small baby. You suddenly one day started speaking two words at a time. Since then you tell us paragraphs about everything. It helps us see the world through your eyes. The world is so exciting and has so much learning in it. I love your hair. It’s so soft and long and blonde. It has the most beautiful soft curls. You crack us up with having to have pockets in every pair of pants you own. If the pants don’t have pockets then you only want a diaper. You love your dresses. You have to put at least 3 different ones on every day while wearing either your slippers or rain boots. It brings us so much joy that you always need your nails painted. You love giving gifts but only if you get to open them for the person. You give the tightest hugs for such a tiny person. Ones that never make us doubt how much love you are pouring into us. I love your back rubs and arm tickles. I have never met a more caring soul. You go through your trials and still make sure everyone around you is happy. You have so much strength, grace, and beauty. We can stare at you for hours not even knowing how fast the time just went by. You make all of us better people. You are Mommy’s mini me. You are Daddy’s little girl. You are our best friend. “We make a good team.” I will look for you in ladybugs Miss Dot. We love you to the moon and back (and back again).

In Loving Memory
Thank you for letting us be a small part of Paisley’s life. She made our inpatient stays more fun with her gifts, drawings and silly personality. We will cherish those sacred hallway visits forever.

Oh, sweet Paisley. My heart is broken for your precious family but so comforted to know that you are dancing with the angels, full of life and pain free. You are so loved and so missed, little one!

My husband works with Braxton. He sent me this link. We could not stop the tears while reading this heartwarming account of such a beautiful little soul. You never really know if there are any words you can say or type to make a difference but I just wanted to say I would have loved to have seen her dance, sing and use her logic. It sounds like those that got to know her were very lucky to be around such an amazing little human. Our heartfelt condolences go out to you.

It has been quite a journey as I have watched your heroic journey. The fire of her flame of joy will never go out. You have been greatly blessed with her life. We also have been greatly blessed as you have kept us part of your life. You are loved by so many. Because of a sure knowledge of the resurrection you again will participate in raising Paisley. Never quit talking to her as if she were in the next room. Her picture is a beautiful treasure. May peace be with you this day and always.

Thursday evening was a grand celebration for the life and legacy of a wonderful three year-old girl. The setting the music and the food was a spectacular way of remembering Paisley.
