Panagiota “Nota” Armaou

July 23, 1924 - November 18, 2025

Our most beloved Mother, Sister, Aunt, Panagiota “Nota” Armaou passed away peacefully in her home on November 18, 2025. Panagiota (Kaskaba) was born on July 23, 1924 in the historic village of VERVENA, Greece. The daughter of Panagiotis and Eleni Kaskaba. Panagiota was the second of 6 children.

Panagiota was a teenager during WWII. Her stories of how her family navigated those times were captivating. Her brother was taken prisoner by the Germans and sent to Germany. Like the rest of the country, Panagiota’s family struggled with poverty and hunger. However, through faith and perseverance, and the help of God, they overcame the challenges of the war.

Panagiota always had a jovial disposition as she was the ultimate optimist, always with a smile and a propensity for enjoying life. She was happy to come and live in America with her husband Georgios and son Yanni. She made America her second home and made many friendships. She saw the good in everyone she met and loved them deeply.

Music was very special to her as she had a beautiful voice that was inspirational to hear whenever she sang. Her talent in music was evident as she made her own rhymes and songs to the delight of her friends.

Like all of the women of her era, Panagiota was an excellent cook. One of her greatest joys was to have friends and family over to share laughter and happiness over a sumptuous meal.

Panagiota adored her husband Georgios. They were happily married for 62 years, sharing a strong and enduring bond of love, mutual respect and caring for each other, especially as they aged together, always cherishing each other and their family.
Panagiota prioritized family above all else. Her love and devotion was unmatched. As one of her nephews said, “Η θεια ηταν το πιο ψηλο βουνο της οικογενειας!”

Panagiota was a devout Orthodox Christian whose faith was central to her life – a faith that she instilled in her beloved son Yanni.

Panagiota was preceded in death by her parents Panagiotis and Eleni, her father and mother-in-law, Giannis and Eleni Armaou, loving husband Georgios, her brother Georgios (Maria) Kaskaba, sister Paraskevi (Konstantinos Iereas) Lapata, brother- in-law Georgios (Stavroula) Andreopoulos, Basiliki Mountzouri (Konstantinos), Giannis Hanoumis (Giannoula), brother-in-law Emmanuel Armaou, Hlias (Koula) Armaou.

She is survived by her son Yanni, her sisters Stavroula (George) Andreopoulos and Giannoula (Giannis) Hanoumi, sister-in-law Maria (Georgios) Kaskaba, and several nephews and nieces.

Our profound gratitude is offered to the nurses from Canyon Home Care and Hospice, especially to Erika Negley, who was always most professional and supportive.

A viewing will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 279 South 300 West, Salt Lake City, UT, 84101, at 10:00am Monday, November 24, 2025 followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00am and interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greek Orthodox Church of Greater Salt Lake in her honor.

May her memory be eternal!!

In Loving Memory

It is with profound sadness that we learn of the passing of Theia Nota. She was a kind, loving, and beautiful soul who loved her family tremendously and welcomed everyone with open arms. We fondly remember our time together, often reminiscing about days past, and, on occasion, being blessed to hear her sing. Yianni, our hearts break for your loss, knowing how much she loved and admired you. We send our deepest condolences. May her memory be eternal.
