Patricia Lee Sorenson
May 29, 1934 – April 19, 2010
Beloved Mom, Grammy, Aunt, Sister, Pat, our little sweetheart, known for her inner strength and her tiny voice, passed away suddenly at her home. Pat was born in Austin, TX, but grew up in Utah. She attended South High School. She married Don Sorenson August 10, 1951, and later divorced. Together, they had 3 daughters. She worked in the insurance industry as a claim writer for over thirty years. She had the work ethic of her generation. Arriving at 5:30 AM most mornings, Pat was sweetly generous and always kept “a dollar 3.80” to help someone in need. It was always offered before you could ask. She was a voracious reader and talented writer. She had an envious library that included James Michener, Clavel, Pearl S. Buck, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. She often referred to her books as good friends and so ignited her family’s love of reading.
Pat was a grandmother that would listen without judgment, love unconditionally and held many confidences. Some of her grandkids were the lucky benefactors of her beautifully crocheted throws before her hands gave out.
Pat struggled with rheumatoid arthritis with grace and dignity and stayed fiercely independent until her very last day. We loved and admired this about her.
She is survived by her daughters Robyn Young (Dino), Chris Forbes (Randy), Cathy Lambourne (Rick); 24 grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters Karen Elmore (Glen), Pam Sullivan (Mike), and many nieces and nephews. She was proud of her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents Paul & Marvel George.
Sincere thanks to Dr. Robert S. Powel at the St. Mark’s Senior Care Center, the Home Care nurses from Cozy Health, and Steve Hamilton at the Market Pharmacy in Park City.
A wake will be held to celebrate Patricia’s life on Friday, April 23, 2010, at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S. 900 E., Salt Lake City, where friends may call upon her family from 6 to 8 PM.
In Loving Memory
Dear Robyn, Although I never met your mother, it sounds as though she was a truly wonderful, sweet and caring person. If only the world were filled with more people like her, this would be a much better place. My heart aches for you, and I pray that God gives your family peace and comfort in this time of sadness. If you need anything, please let me know. Your friend, Michelle.
