Patricia Louise Maney Trebesch
"Grandma Pat"
Pat passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2009 after a short battle with cancer. She was at home with her family. She left before the snow started falling that day. Pat was born April 19, 1936 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota to Emma Louis and Patrick Maney. The oldest of five, Pat grew up in Northern Minnesota on the "Iron Range" with her 2 sisters, Irene Maney Draxton and Mary Ellen Maney Atkins and 2 brothers Jim and Dan Maney. She graduated from Coleraine High School in 1954, and Itasca Junior College and Bemidji State College with a degree in teaching. Pat loved children and upon graduating from college, she spent 7 years teaching 1st and 2nd grade. Pat married her college sweetheart Jerry Trebesch on December 27, 1958. They shared 50 wonderful years – partners, buddies, and teammates. Pat was thrilled to be able to stay home after her years of teaching and spend the rest of her life devoted to the care of her own children. Her greatest joys in life came each time one of her grandchildren was born. She was thrilled to have five beautiful grandchildren to spend time with and spoil. Pat was an awesome grandma who always had a little bit of leprechaun magic to share. With babies she was always a calm, snuggly presence who inspired many naps. She could make a whole song out of macaroni and cheese, which was so yummy for your tummy. Each grandchild got special, one-on-one attention. When the family went on an Alaskan cruise in celebration of their 50th anniversary, each grandchild got a turn to have a sleepover in Grandma and Grandpa’s room. Pat’s laugh was unforgettable and full of joy. She was an expert at playing tricks and practical jokes because she could keep a straight face when others around her could not. She could hide an Easter basket so well it wouldn’t be found for days. Somehow, milk always seemed to turn green on St Patrick’s Day. Her talents didn’t end there though. You always knew you were in for a great story when it started with “I’ll never forget…” because Pat never did. She made friends out of strangers wherever she went and something about her made people want to share their life-stories with her. Whether she wanted them to or not. She could cook a wonderful meal fit for fifty and manage to keep it all warm until it was time to eat. Pat was preceded in death by her son Arthur (at age 7), sister Irene, brother Dan and her parents. Pat leaves behind her husband Jerry, son Tim and wife Elizabeth, grandchildren Kirsten and Aidan, daughter Kate and husband Bill, grandchildren Will, Jake and Ben, sister Mary and brother Jim as well as many beloved friends and extended family. A wake will be held on Friday March 27th from 6 – 8pm at Starks Funeral Parlor (3651 S 900 East in SLC). A funeral mass will be held on Saturday March 28th 11:00 am at St Vincent De Paul Catholic Parish (1385 E Spring Lane (5050 South) in SLC).
We will all miss her deeply, but know that she is happily singing Irish songs and celebrating with her dad and son. Erin Go Bragh!
In Loving Memory
While I will not be there in person, I will be ther in thoughts and prayers. I will always be there for all of you. As I sit quietly thinking of Patty I think I hear the quiet strains of When Irish Eyes Are Smiling. May you find the peace in memories of the gifts she shared......I know that is where my comfort will come from....the memories.
