Mr. Swigart was my 6th grade teacher. I was going through a really rough time back then. My mom was single trying to rise 3 kids (I’m oldest) in a lower-income area. I worried about food, the roof over my head…a lot of things. But even today, I remember Mr. Swigart making me feel safe and interested in learning. I remember his art and teaching me creativity while learning about Greek Mythology and Joseph Campbell’s philosophy. I remember him talking about his son who had passed, and I could tell how much he meant to him. I remember faking my mom’s signature to move from the gifted English class so I could go to his regular English class cause I liked how he explained things. I unsuccessfully tried finding him a few years ago to thank him for introducing me to Joseph Campbell, and inspiring me to be my own hero on my journey. I now have a master’s degree and kids of my own, and take his lessons with me today. Thanks Mr. Swigart, may your memory forever be a blessing.

Mr Swigart wash all time favorite teacher. It’s been over 30 years and I still remember how he would make up jingles for lessons. His beautiful art he’d incorporate into class work to make it more engaging and interesting. I’ll always remember you Mr Swigart.
