Paul Clark

January 1, 1930 - May 16, 2015

Paul peacefully passed away Saturday, May 16th, 2015 from natural causes. He died at his home with loving family by his side.

Paul was born January 1, 1930 in Georgetown, Idaho to Newell Sirls and Meta Margaret (Wunderly) Clark. Paul grew up on Salt Lake’s west side. In order to help his family he started working very young selling newspapers on the streets of Salt Lake City. Paul graduated from West High School and always had a place in his heart for his alma mater. He was drafted into the Army and proudly served his country. Paul met Dee Clark in the late 1950s and they were married on May 5, 1962. He loved his family and was a wonderful father and always provided. Paul always had a welcoming smile and a drink for all who visited. He worked for Mountain Bell for 32 years where he played on their softball and bowling leagues, helping to manage both. He was an active member of St. Ann’s parish and loved the Men’s Club. He volunteered at the St. Vincent Soup Kitchen for over a decade, providing meals for the homeless. Paul’s greatest service was for his daughter Dena who needed care her entire life. He was blessed with two granddaughters, Rosalyn and Camille, whom he loved dearly. Late in life, Paul met and became close friends with Patty Smith with whom he enjoyed spending time.

Paul was dearly loved and will be missed. Survived by his son Paul (Genevieve) Clark; granddaughters Rosalyn and Camille; sisters Dorothy Russell and Margaret Price; brothers Carl (Thera) Clark and Theodor (Nancy) Clark; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by wife Dee Clark; daughter Dena Clark; father Newell Clark; and mother Meta Clark.

The family is thankful for Michele Smith who helped to provide care for Paul in his last months; Silverado Hospice for their compassion; and to Ken Evans (nephew) and Sandy Macleod for their vigil in the closing moments of Paul’s life.

A wake will be held on Thursday, May 21st from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, where complimentary valet parking will be provided on the north side of the building. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 22nd at 12:00 PM at St. Ann Catholic Church, 450 East 2100 South, Salt Lake City; where a viewing will be held from 11:00 until 11:45 AM. Interment Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

In Loving Memory

My family and I would like to express our deepest sympathy over the loss of Paul. We know the Clark Family is hurting deeply at this time. May you find comfort in your loving memories and the warmth of family and friends. A scripture that has uplifted me during times such as this is found at Revelation 21:4. There it describes a time when death and pain will be gone forever after God restores his original purpose for the earth. We will even see our loved ones again who we have lost in death (John 5:28 & 29). It is my hope that these words bring you a measure of comfort during this difficult time as well. Once again, please accept my condolences as you deal with your loss.

Dear Family of Paul, Please accept our deepest sympathy for your loss. The death of a loved one is so difficult to understand. May you be comforted by the promises found in God's word. John 5:28 & 29 hold out the hope of the resurrection of those that are sleeping in death. They will be brought back to life, to a world that will be free of sickness and death. May this beautiful promise bring you comfort and hope during this difficult time. Paul was a special friend. We will miss him and his wonderful smile. May he rest in peace. Love & prayers, Gary & Donna Carson
