Phillip Lawton Hansen

January 3, 1944 - July 14, 2025

Phillip (Phil) Lawton Hansen died July 14, 2025, peacefully, surrounded by family. Phil was born January 3, 1944 to Steven and Dorothy Hansen and was raised in Salt Lake City. He was an Alumnus of Highland High, member of Kappa Sigma and graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in finance.  Phil served for 10 years in the Army Reserve as a medic. In 1965, Phil married Marie Kibbe. They enjoyed 48 years of marriage and Phil was at her side until she passed in 2013.  Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and Utah man had three children: Brad (Amy) Hansen; Joseph (Amy) Hansen; and Katherine (Deacon) Haymond; eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Phil created lifelong friendships with teammates and clients with his years at First Security Bank and the members of his friend group known as “the Classic,” which resulted in countless rounds of golf, horseshoe toss, and incredible meals and games at Phil’s Oakley retreat.  Phil took great pride in the Oakley cabin that he and Marie built together.  Even in his final days, that memory making place was recalled fondly, and he asked it to be protected and maintained.  He was active with his close neighbors and dinner club members that will remember his soft-spoken nature and kindness as a defining characteristic.  Forever a man of service, Phil loved his work with Kiwanis and was known for helping anyone in need. Continually taking on new projects and activities to challenge himself, he shared that trait with his progeny. Phil will also be remembered for his love of animals, and his pets always received his superior care. With a passion for fly fishing, he loved catch and release. Phil was a dedicated Utah sports fan with season tickets to football and basketball for 40+ years, we will miss his high fives after a great play.

We would like to thank all that gave Phil final care and love at Sunrise and Inspiration Hospice.

A celebration of life will be on Thursday, August 7, 2025  from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Stark Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the parking on the north side of the building.
