Pina C. Newton
April 19, 1926 - November 7, 2021
On November 7, 2021, Pina C. Newton wife, mother, grandmother (Nonna), great-grandmother (bisnonna), sister and friend to many, passed away peacefully in Murray, Utah. Giuseppina was born in Palermo, Sicily, Italy on April 19, 1926 to Giuseppe and Franca Chianello. Pina is survived by her beloved children Mary (Galen), Michael, Laurie (Chris), her grandchildren, Jennifer (Jared), Kirstin, Cameron and Alexander, her great-grandchildren, Ryan, Clara, Emilia, Isaac and Asher. She is also survived by her sister Ida Russo and many extended family members who live in Italy and the U.S.
She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Ewell Newton, her siblings Antonio (Angela), Giovanna C. (Harold) Nicolo (Lyllian) and her brother-in-law Franco Russo.
Pina immigrated to the USA at the age of 29, met her love and they were wed on January 28, 1956. They were married for 63 years. Pina was a loving dedicated mother and also worked in accounting and billing for 10 years for First Security Bank operations center (Wells Fargo). She served in the Legion of Mary for many years and always remained a devout Catholic. Pina loved her very close Italian friends and spent much time doing church work, cooking, shopping and adventuring with them.
Pina’s family wishes to thank her loving caregivers at the Abbington in Murray, especially Lisa, Eva and Rachel, even though she was only there for a few weeks.
A celebration of Mass was held in Pina's honor at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Pina will be laid to rest privately at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery next to her late husband, Herbert.
In lieu of flowers, both Mom and Dad requested donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
