Ralph LaVar Colledge

January 9, 1949 - August 18, 2018

Ralph (Buster) LaVar Colledge died on August 18, 2018.  His death was sudden and a shock to his family and friends.  He died of a brain aneurysm. He was 69 years old, a life cut too short.

Ralph was born to Bernice Beveridge and Ralph LaDrue Colledge.  His mother died when he was 4. His father married Daisy Lee Rogers and she raised Ralph from the age of 5.

Ralph grew up in American Fork.  He graduated from American Fork High school and went on a mission for the LDS church to England. He came stateside because of his asthma and completed his mission in Arizona and California.

After his mission, he moved to Salt Lake City where he met and married Catherine Gilchrist.  They adopted 2 children, Cameron and Emily.  They later divorced.  Ralph met the love of his life, Anita Simmons and they married in 1997.  They spent 21 wonderful years together.

Ralph worked at Paragon Press for many years.  He was the Graphic Communications Union President.  He retired and went to work for VLCM with his dear friend Rich Linton.

Ralph has served as a Bishop and a scout leader.  He was a family man.  He enjoyed spending time outdoors with his son, daughter, nephews and grandkids hunting and fishing.  He was the most caring and compassionate man.  He would do anything for anyone.  He was a little wild and crazy.  He loved Halloween and to dress up crazily.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents and his three sisters.  He is survived by his loving wife, Anita; his children Cameron (Claudia), and Emily; his step children Stephen, Judith (Jon), and Jill (Nana Yaw); his sisters Marilyn (Byron), Cecilia, and many others who will miss him dearly.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 23 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking on the north side of the building. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 24 at 11:00 am, also at Starks Funeral Parlor with a viewing beginning at 10:00 am.

Ralph was great to me as a young missionary in Sandy. I had then come from Canada. He helped me Love Utah and showed me many nice things about it. I'll always remember shooting his 300 Weatherby and how he loved that gun. I miss you Ralph.
