Randall “Scott” Apgood

January 9, 1956 - October 16, 2025

Randall “Scott” Apgood, age 69, passed away at IMC Hospital on Thursday, October 16, 2025 due to a stroke.

Scott was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 9, 1956, to Robert Julian and Anna Marie Russo Apgood. He was proceeded in death by both his parents, his sister Randolyn, brother Craig and his nephew Nicholas. He is survived by his sister Kris, and her children Christopher and Danyell, his sister-in-law Becky, and her children Thomas (wife Kierstin), Amanda and Taylor, his childhood friends, Del Alberico and Todd Barker. But most importantly, he is survived by his 30 year companion Carol Dent.

From a young age, Scott loved to run and play little league football. He was coached by his dad Bob and close family friend, Marco Brunatti. His love of football continued throughout his life, and he was an avid season ticket holder to the Utes football games. He continued his love of running and was often spotted at Sugarhouse Park preparing for multiple 10K and marathon races.

Scott graduated from Granite High School, class of 1974, and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Utah in 1982.

He started working for Dan’s grocery at the age of 16 and loved his daily contact with co-workers and customers, many of whom he considered family. He became a father figure to many of the kids he supervised over the years. At the time of his death, he was the Produce Manager for Macey’s at Olympus Hills. He had just earned his pin for 53 years of service.

Scott will be honored with a Celebration of Life held at the Starks Funeral Parlor 3651 South 900 East on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 from 6-8 pm. Please feel free to come in your casual attire with your running shoes.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to either The Utah Food Bank or The Humane Society of Utah.

Scott was my produce manager(and best) for many years at Dan’s on 70th south.He was like a father figure as well and such a hard worker, you couldn’t get him to take a break.He had pride in his work and it made a longtime mark on his employees.He was my manager, but ended up being a great friend.I’ll miss you Scott
