Randy Jack was born on July 23, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Son of James Willard Sorenson and Betty Sue Hardin. Randy was raised in Oceanside, California and enjoyed spending time sneaking away from school to surf the waves any chance he got. In the 60's, he came kicking and screaming back to Salt Lake when his family moved. Who would blame him.
Randy graduated from Granite High School and began his studies at the Technology Engineering Institute, Salt Lake City, 1967-1968. He continued his studies at the University of Utah College of Technology, 1970-1972. He was Vice President of P/S Associates, Inc., Captain for Park City Fire District and a member of Utah State Fireman's Association, Utah Council of Land Surveyors, American Water Works Association, American Congress Surveying and Mapping, American Civil Engineers Council, Utah Sailing Association Club (Salt Lake City) (race chairman 1980-1982).
Randy excelled in sports and especially loved swimming or anything to do with water. Randy was an avid sailor where on the weekends you could find him sailing on the shores of the Deer Creek Reservoir or Bear Lake. He also loved to scuba dive and visited many sites in Mexico, Florida, and Belize. His most recent love was spending time on the golf course chasing that perfect hole in one with his friends. A big thank you to Byron, Steve D, Dan, Mike, and Steve B. for always being there for him. His one true passion was spending time with family and friends.
Randy was an amazing father, big brother, grandpa and uncle. He valued others and spending time with those closest to him. If you were in his circle, you had a friend for life. Randy was never one to mince words and you always knew where you stood with him. He was a true believer in people and always wanted the best for others.
Preceded in death by his daughter Mikel, brother Bob, sister Debbie and his father and mother. He is survived by his sons Randy Jr., Ryan; stepdaughter Kegan; granddaughter Ciara (Bryan); sisters, Karma, Jane, Barbara, Lisa; brothers Gary, Harold, Jimmy and Greg. He is also survived by his nieces, aunts, uncles and many cousins.
We would like to sincerely thank the nurses and doctors at Riverton Hospital and Intermountain Medical Center for his excellent and loving care. Fortunately, Randy did not have to fight a long battle with lung cancer.
A celebration of Randy Sorenson's life will be held Saturday, August 3, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Starks Funeral Parlor which is located at 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, UT 84106. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking on the north side of the building. Dress is casual and remember this is a celebration so be prepared to share your favorite Randy story and help us honor this amazing man.
We love you and know you are rejoicing with your daughter Mikel and family members. Oh what a joyous reunion you must be having. We miss you and will hold you in our hearts forever.

RIP Randy and enjoy the surfing in Paradise. Unfortunately, i never met you, but your sister adored you. No conversation was hardly spoken, without your name being mentioned with admiration. Please ask God to comfort Karma she will miss you every day and she will need prayers and angels showering her with blessings knowing you are out of pain and happy to be with your daughter and family once again.

My Sweet big brother Randy, I want to thank you for being the best brother and greatest influence in my life. I'll never forget all of the things we did growing up. The precious memories Will be with me forever. You know you weren't supposed to go before me Randy. Randy, I miss you so much already And I Will Always Love you. We are so sorry to hear of the loss of this man. Randy was the kind of guy you wanted to be around, so fun.. such a hard worker..loyal to his friends and family. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of such a wonderful father, brother, Uncle, grandpa, friend. From the first time I met Randy Sr the first thing I felt was that I was part of the family. He always treated me with respect and I treated him the same. If you ever needed anything, even to talk, he was always there for you. This man will be missed in so many ways. I am praying for the family and I send my warmest heart felt condolences. Till we meet again Randy Sr, we love and miss you. ❤❤
Saturday, I attended , along with family and friends a Celebration of my cousin's life. It was a beautiful tribute to Randy and a way to share the many stories of how he touched our lives. My cousin and I were only 10 months apart and our families lived together for the first few years of our lives. In my heart he is and always will be my older brother. We were always called Aunt Diane and Uncle George by Randy Jr and Ryan. Randy and I always knew each other would be there if we needed a shoulder to cry on and of course if we needed to have some fun when our lives took those unexpected turns. The last few years he has always stayed with us in St George in February or March when attending the surveyors conference. George and I will always cherish those times. To my nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends I know you feel as I do- our hearts are broken but i think Randy would say something like this: Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free. I’m following the path God has chosen for me. I took His hand when I heard Him call; I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way; I’ve found now peace at the end of the day. If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joys. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss; Oh yes, these things, I too will l miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, look for the sunshine of tomorrow. My life’s been full, I savored much; good friends, good times, a loved ones touch. Perhaps my time seems all too brief; don’t lengthen your time with undue grief. Dear Ryan and Randy Jr.: Wow, all this “stuff” regarding your dear Dad has happened so quickly! Please know that we mourn the loss of this man. Right now there’s a hollow feeling… it seems as if the world is not quite the same! Randy Jack Sorenson, also known to me as “Sorenski”, shall be remembered, loved and respected by so many, not just his family. In fact, he’s really left an indelible mark on so many lives! I met your Dad some 50 years ago when he was just beginning in his chosen profession, land surveying. Then, he was just plain “Randy”. Randy had a quiet, charismatic demeanor about him that attracted him to so many… the result being that a circle of interesting, unique people came into play. As they say, a “few beers and a few laughs” resulted in a working relationship that blossomed businesses, more new relationships with engineers and surveyors, successes, failures, but in the end, pure love and respect that we all look for as life takes its course. Professionally, Randy was an incredible surveyor. Try to get your arms around all of his accomplishments… He personally surveyed subdivisions, buildings, railroad crossings across big lakes, pipelines, power lines… in fact, anything that makes this country great. Keep these little treasures about the man in safe keeping for the future generations of Sorenson’s to come. Recreationally, for lack of a better word, Randy introduced us to sailboats, namely Hobie Cats. This was a world that consumed us all for so many years. Out of it, Randy became known and respected as “Sorenski”, or just plain “Ski”… Stories were many… almost all of them cannot be written to protect the identities of the people involved. Needless to say, Randy was a proud participant! Through all these years, we followed each other’s families… their lives, accomplishments and heartaches. His Grandma, Mom, Dad, his daughter, siblings, even cousins became warm and memorable people. Ski was a figurehead to these sweet people. To his dear family, thank you for meeting you all! Randy was so proud! Above all, Ski was a worker… Sadly, work may have taken him from us… Its hard to believe that just a few weeks ago, he was on the job, out in the field, doing the things he’d done for half a century. Put that into perspective! His example sets the bar high! Like all of us, Randy had his demons. Rest assured, resolution has taken place. He is safely with his loved ones gone before him. So, the circle begins again. Boys, the tools you’ve inherited from your Dad will serve you well. Put on his special personality as you face each day, use your inherited charisma to carry you on your life’s new journey. Remember always your Dad. We will too!
