Ray Campos
September 24, 1934 - May 26, 2023
Our beloved father, Ray P. Campos, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2023, at his son, Larry Campos' home where he was being cared for in his final weeks.
Born September 24, 1934, to Ray and Julia Campos.
He graduated from Judge Memorial Catholic High School and married Connie Marie Mascarenas on November 21, 1954. Ray and Connie made their home open to all who needed help, they were always willing to open their home to troubled kids or anyone that needed a place to stay.
Ray served in the United States Army where he was stationed in Germany for 2 years. His wife Connie and their two sons, Rodney and Larry joined him and their third son Kevin, was born in Germany.
After serving in the army, Ray shifted his career path and worked in the trucking industry, owned a business (Campos Drive Inn), and retired from Salt Lake Community College.
He was a devoted member of St. Martin Catholic Church, a doting husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. Aside from his love for his family, he also loved sports.
Ray coached little league baseball, football, and basketball. He was a fan of the Utah Utes, Norte Dame Fighting Irish, and of course the Utah Jazz. Ray enjoyed the small adventures of camping and boating with his loved ones and friends.
Ray is survived by Rod ( Deborah), Larry (Teri), Terry, Jeff (Heidi), and Nick (Sonia). He is preceded in death by his parents, wife (Connie), sons (Joseph, Kevin, and Jim), and brother (James).
Ray’s personality and humor shined at all times making it a joy for everyone he knew. He made very witty remarks and playful jabs at those he loved (and those he didn’t).
His gratitude towards those who cared for him, including his family, friends, and doctors (especially Superior Home Healthcare) is heartfelt and very much appreciated.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, June 4th from 5-7 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S 900 E, Millcreek. Following, a vigil will be held at 6:30 PM by Father Dominic.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 5th at 11:00 AM at St. Martin de Porres, 4914 South 2200 W, Taylorsville.
Ray will then be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
