Raymond E. Lowe

June 23, 1944 - September 26, 2025

Raymond Lowe, a devoted husband, proud father of four, cherished grandfather of nineteen, U.S. Army veteran, and faithful Catholic, passed away peacefully at home on September 26, 2025, at the age of 81.

Born in June 1944, Raymond lived a life defined by service, humility, and quiet strength. He served his country honorably during the Vietnam War, where he contributed not only as a soldier but also as a builder of stages for USO shows, bringing moments of relief and joy to his fellow servicemen and women during stressful times.

Prior to his military service, Raymond worked in Alaska on the railroads and as a forest firefighter, a role that perfectly suited his resilience, work ethic, and love for the outdoors.

In June 1969, Raymond married Christine, the love of his life. Their story began years earlier when Christine moved into the house across the street; she was 9, he was 14. Their deep friendship blossomed into a marriage that lasted 56 years.

Their first child, Peter, was born with special needs; Raymond embraced the challenges of raising Peter with selfless love from day one. Decades later, Peter and Raymond were a familiar sight in the San Gabriel community, taking daily walks together.

Ray completed his degree in Accounting at Cal-State LA and worked for Los Angeles County, rotating through several departments, including Crippled Children’s Services, Mechanical Dept., Flood Control, and finally Treasurer and Tax Collector.

In retirement, he spent his summers on road trips, visiting grandchildren, traveling between California, Iowa, and Utah — always supportive and ready with a story or a big hug. Raymond was very involved with the neighborhood as the captain of the Neighborhood Watch Program. He organized the Neighbor’s Night Out event, and could be found preemptively routing out neighbors’ sewers.

Raymond was a lifelong man of faith. He attended St. Therese in Alhambra, CA; St. Wenceslaus in Cedar Rapids, IA; and St. Ambrose in Salt Lake City, UT, where his funeral Mass will be held. His faith extended into action — he was a volunteer with various pro-life organizations, donated over 100 times to the Red Cross Apheresis Blood Platelet Program, in addition to gallons of whole blood over the course of his life. He gave his time generously to the Santa Fe Dam Nature Center, reflecting his love for nature and commitment to helping others.

Raymond was an avid softball player and a highly regarded men’s softball umpire. He never missed an opportunity to support his son’s, nephews’, and grandchildren’s sporting events, plays, graduations, recitals, and birthdays.

Raymond was a man who never sought the spotlight, but whose presence was deeply felt. His quiet integrity, dry sense of humor, and gentle spirit made him a source of strength and comfort to everyone who knew him. He led by example — through service, humility, and love. It’s fair to say that “Everyone loves Raymond.”

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Christine; his four sons — Peter, Daniel, Isaac, and Nathan; and his nineteen grandchildren — Henry, Felix, Nicholas, Rachel, Julian, Benjamin, Joshua, Lucy, Dominic, Beatrice, Sabrina, Simon, Veronica, Evelyn, Christopher, Gabriel, Rosemarie, Arthur, and Regina. He is also survived by his brother Richard, and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Florence; three brothers, Randy, Michael, and Robert; and two sisters, Donna and Beverly.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 3, 2025 at 11:00 am at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 2315 E Redondo Ave, Salt Lake City. Burial will follow at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 East Bengal Blvd, Cottonwood Heights.

Raymond will be deeply missed and forever remembered. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he raised, and the faith he embraced.

To Christine and the entire Lowe Family, My sincerest condolences for your loss. I am one of the many LA County employees who were "privileged to experience' Ray. We were all impressed and affected by his calmness, quiet strength to endure and still maintain a sense of humor. Your 'strength and belief in God' will see you through....
