Reverend Patrick Henry Elliott

September 8, 1940 - November 29, 2018

The Reverend Patrick Henry Elliott died November 29, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah following an accidental fall near his residence. He was born September 8, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan to Cecil H. Elliott and Lorraine M. Quinn.

His early years were spent in Detroit, Michigan, where he graduated from the Holy Ghost Fathers Seminary High School. He received his BA degree from the Theological Seminary in Connecticut and a MA from Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corner, Wisconsin. On May 19, 2000, he was ordained to the priesthood in Salt Lake’s Cathedral of the Madeleine by the Most Reverend George H. Niederauer.

Father Elliott served five years as Associate Pastor at the Cathedral of the Madeleine and twelve years as Pastor of Holy Family parish in South Ogden, Utah. His experience in California’s service industry, as well as his unique talents, facilitated his building of the new church, which was his delight. His warm relational skills, dynamic sermons and persuasive powers to initiate new parish programs and social activities endeared him to parishioners and significantly enriched parish life.

As a Fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a Knight Commander of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem, Father Elliott provided support for members of the laity who appreciated his sense of humor and willingness to attend their gatherings.

Father is survived by his sister, Sharon Lee (Roger) Bernard as well as two nephews Christopher (Dena) Bernard and David (Brooks) Bernard and a niece, Laura (Jim) Bonar.

A Vigil service will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 7:30 PM at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 331 East South Temple, Salt Lake City. I'm so very sorry for your loss. But may the words of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ help you all to find hope in the words of Jesus Christ that are found in John 5:28,29 to where we find him here giving us all Gaurrantee that he will resurrect ones like this Pastor back to life again and then after the is brought back, he will then have the enjoyment of living a endless life as Gods word the Bible says in Psalm 37:29 which reads:The righteous will possess the earth and they will live forever on it. So may these words bring some real comfort in the days ahead.

Fr Elliott was my priest for 8 years at Holy Family, Ogden. I started going to this church when we sat on benches in a small hall. Fr Elliott built a beautiful church that stands magnificently on a hill in So. Ogden. Always breathtaking when I drive by and think about what it stands for. Thank-you Fr Elliott for your years of service to us and GOD. May your soul be in heaven. patty
