Rex Matinus Johnson
Rex, 78, passed away peacefully from natural causes, surrounded by loved ones on February 15th, 2009. He was born August 1st, 1930 in Fountain Green, Utah to Franklin Dewey and Edna Jenson Johnson.
He graduated from Wasatch High School in 1948. Then for the next three years herded sheep in Heber until he was drafted in 1951 by the Army. He was a radar operator in Korea until 1953. Rex worked for Utah Kennecott Copper from 1956 until 1985 when he took an early retirement. He was a member of the LDS Church. He married Lois Gaye Turpin in 1968, later separated in 1974.
He is survived by his wife Lois Gaye Johnson; children Kim (Fred) Newell, She’Ree (Domingo) Gaspar, Tanya (Justin) Garret; brothers Tedd Johnson, Dean (Renee) Johnson; sisters Eva Provost, Lucile Grasser, Betty (Joe) Hilton, Jane (Clift) Jordan; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, son Travis Alan Keele; and brother Clem Anderson.
A Memorial will be held on Friday, February 20th, at 4:00 PM at V.F.W. Post, 840 South 2nd East, Salt Lake City. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 21st at 12:00 noon at Fountain Green City Cemetery, 400 North 100 East, Fountain Green.
