Richard Carlton Neves

August 8, 1943 - February 4, 2012

Richard Carlton Neves

Our loving father, brother and uncle returned to our Heavenly Father on February 4, 2012, after a fight with cancer.

He was born on August 8, 1943 in Ogden, Utah to Hildred and James Neves.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for 25 years, and retired in 1993 as a Lt. Colonel. Richard served a mission for the LDS Church in Eastern Texas from 1962-1964.  He graduated from Weber State University in 1969, one of the first to major in Computer Science.  From 1980 to 2011, he worked at OSHA’s Salt Lake Analytical Laboratory as an information technology specialist where he was always willing to help a colleague in need.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed camping, military history, aviation, traveling, and cruising around in his Mini-Cooper. He was a quiet, humble man whose children were his joy.

He is survived by his five children: Shannon (Mike) Moore, Jennifer (Dylan George) Neves, Michelle (Ryan Brainard) Neves, Corinne (James) Sroykum, Matthew Neves; brothers Max and Jay; and many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and a son, William.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 12:00 Noon at the Union Fort 3rd Ward, 6710 South 1300 East, Midvale, where friends may call upon the family one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be held at 3:30 PM at the Lindquist Washington Heights, 4500 Washington Blvd, Ogden.

Arrangements entrusted to Starks Funeral Parlor.  Flowers are welcome or in Richard’s honor go on a roadtrip, attend an airshow, or drink a Dr. Pepper.

In Loving Memory

My condolences to the family and friends - am very sorry to hear of Dick's passing. While it has been a while, I thoroughly enjoyed working with Dick at the Technical Center and was always impressed with his professionalism, IT knowledge, and problem solving abilities. I also fondly remember he always had a stash of Dr Pepper somewhere in the office!

My heart goes out to you kids. Your dad was truly one of the best. He was always kind and loving and always willing to help whenever we needed him. I'll never forget his goofy laugh or silly way he talked about how to fix our computers. He will be forever missed.

Very well written! I love you all so much and am mourning with you. Uncle Dick will be missed! With never an unkind word, he possessed a quite dignity and a kind heart. I will think of him every time I enjoy a Dr. Pepper!

I work with Max Neves, and have had the pleasure to get to know Cheryl during the past 6 years. They are wonderful and selfless, which I am sure is a trait that Richard shared. I appreciated reading his obituary, and even though I did not know him, I feel I have known him through Max. My sincere condolences to Richard's family. May the Lord bless you at this time with comfort.

As with all the other challenges of life Dick fought with dignity, strength and courage his battle with cancer. It's with utmost respect for his years of military service and his dedication to his work and profession, I offer my condolences to his family and friends. But most of all I want to acknowledge my life long friendship with a good and decent man that brought humor, warmth and good cheer into my life and to all that knew him. May the God of all comfort and peace put his loving arms around Dick's family.

While I knew Dick well I had little contact with daughters until he got sick. I watched his daughters loving care for their father and was impressed by the relationship he had with them. Often it is the case that in the most difficult of circumstances that one true character shows. I know that Dick is very proud and grateful for his children. May God bless you and keep you.

My Condolences to you Matt and your lovely family. I know is a hard time for you and no words would help the pain you are going through right now. But, do know that Heavenly Father is watching over you and that your dad is in a better place. It is us that he should be crying for since, we're the ones left in these world where we only get pain and suffering. He will no longer suffer. He is in peace and happiness. Luv you Matt.

Lots of memories from many years gone by. Remember the train in the basement that he would not let us touch but would run it for us and tell us all about it. Also told us about the planes hanging from his ceiling in his bedroom. Lots of pleasant memories. Sorry we could not attend the service but will include him when we decorate the graves for Memorial Day. He will be missed.

Mrs. Beer Blog here. I wanted to add that Kendall and I first met over a Dick's Danger, then one of our first dates was a trip to Dick's in Centralia for a breewry tour, beer and sandwich. Dick and Dick's Brewing has a special place in our hearts and we are very sad indeed to get this news today. Our best to his family, employees and regulars.
