Richard George Julio

March 1, 1945 - May 6, 2013

Richard George Julio
1945 – 2013

Rick Julio completed his journey to the other side on May 6, 2013. He did not go quietly into the night but raged against the dying of the light – the demon cancer. Rick lived each day with spirit and openness to life's gifts. Along the way, he inspired so many who are better people because of him.

Born in Wyoming, and moving to Utah when he was five, Rick graduated from Hillcrest High School and worked for UDOT for 35 years, retiring as a Network Administration Manager. He served his nation in the Army National Guard for 26 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant.
As a member of the Civil Air Patrol for five years, Rick served in many capacities, achieving the rank of Major.

Married Margaret Susan Robison in 1969, divorced in 1971. In 1984, Rick married the love of his life, Lisa Baker and together they lived life to the fullest and had many great adventures.
Whether restoring a classic old boat or racing his beloved Porsche, Rick loved all things mechanical. He had a passion for V-tailed Bonanzas and was an accomplished pilot. He got great joy from restoring his classic cars and sharing their histories with others.

Rick had a special connection with all animals. Wild geese would take food from his hand and feral cats would seek him out. He loved his big horse-buddy, Mojo and the many cats and dogs who enriched his life over the years.

Rick loved his family most of all. His soul mate Lisa was his constant companion sharing in all their adventures. They were seldom far from each other. He was extremely proud of his daughter Errin and was completely smitten with his new granddaughter.
Rick is survived by his wife Lisa; daughter Errin (Mack) Hullum and granddaughter Gabriella; brother E. Daniel (Kathi).

Friends are invited to a memorial brunch on Saturday, May 11th from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Inurnment to follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy.

There cannot be great love without great sorrow…
