Richard “Rick” Owen

October 29, 1957 - December 24, 2024

Dad has taken his long Harley ride into the sunset.

After an extensive and courageous fight with cancer, Rick was called to heaven on Christmas Eve. Born to Charles and Josephine Owen on October 29th, 1957 in Murray, Utah. He was raised in the Salt Lake Valley along with his siblings Ken, Vera and Monica. He loved cars and bikes, rock n’ roll, and getting wild with his friends.  Rick met his wife, Gail, while still young and had Chasity. During this time he proudly served his country in the Navy for 4 years in San Diego, California where he received an honorable discharge from a leg injury. After his discharge, they made a life in Salt Lake while welcoming two sons, Richard and Jesse. He worked in different capacities for Chevron throughout his career. Rick was at his best while holding court with family and friends, whether they were hunting or fishing, camping or boating, or at a backyard bbq. You could hear his booming voice singing silly lyrics, telling jokes or teasing everybody. His broad smile and unforgettable blue eyes charmed any and all, until you were wrapped up in one of his stories. After his divorce and retirement, he stayed active and busy with his large group of adoring friends and acquaintances. He enjoyed Harley rides, travel, movies, concerts with friends and posting up in his spot at the bar, giving advice and a hard time to whomever needed it.

Rick is preceded in death by his father Charles W. Owen, brother Charles Kenneth Owen, son Jesse Owen, step-father Eddie Springer, sister Kayleen Owen, and his brother Shannon Owen.  He is survived by his mother Josephine Springer; sisters Vera (Randy) Archuleta and Monica (TK) Owen; sister-in-law Brenda Owen; brother Robert (Becky) Owen; daughter Chasity Jo (David) Sandoval; son Richard (Amber) Owen; daughter-in-law Brittany Owen; six grandsons Bradley Sandoval, Christian Sandoval, Riley Owen, Devon Owen, Bridger Owen, and Dominic Owen, who he loved so dearly; and numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 1:00 PM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 4501 West 5215 South, Kearns, where a viewing will begin at 11:00 AM.

My life will never be the same without you. Our dad was so strong, he never gave up as he went through this whole journey no matter how much he went through. Being by his side is something I’ll always cherish as we got to know and understand either like we never had before. His strength was mind blowing. He’s now resting with no pain, no testing and no appointments which started to get to him. His decision to go home and be at peace is something I’ll never forgot as he was so peaceful and comfortable yet still he had his sense of humor making us laugh whenever he could. I’ll forever say Fuck Cancer, Dad!! A girl should never have to lose their Dad, but until we meet again I’ll remember to keep laughing and not take things so serious and run barefoot in the rain. I love you, Dad. Thank you everyone for your support and your help, he’s a loved man and he knew he was. Chasity.

Sending my heartfelt condolences to the family & mutual friends, the motorcycle community. RickO was one of a kind &a loyal friend with a special gift. I meet him 23 years ago he parked his car in my parking spot at DJ’s. He gave the best advice & always looked out for me if I was working late at night & he was at the bar he’d say text me & I’ll come out of DJ’s & make sure you get to your car safe. When I first started riding motorcycles he said you polish that bike more than you ride it. True ~ Mr. Jokester. If I was at a concert he’d offer us a ride Lol Brittany took us home one time. He even looked out for Cassidy & my staff. Thank You for your support of my business over the years & your sincere friendship see you on the other side. 😇🍷 🙏🏼💐

Oh Fish, It still hasn’t sunk in yet that you’re gone. I was reading through some of our old messages and laughing and crying the same time. All though we haven’t talked as much since I moved up North. I always knew I could call or message you at anytime and of course you would make me laugh. I will continue to talk to you and hope you will give me a sign that you’re still here. I have so much to tell you.. I had no idea that when we were talking a couple weeks ago that it would be our last 😪 I will forever miss you my friend. I will see you again and look forward for your big ole hug. To your family, I send my deepest condolences. I know that there are no words to make it better, Thank you Monica for introducing me to your brother almost 20 years ago. I have so many fond memories. I hope you all know that you are surrounded by love. You are all in my prayers 🙏❤️😪
