Richard Thomas Perkins

March 26, 1940 - June 14, 2019

Richard Thomas (Rick) Perkins passed away peacefully on June 14, 2019 from natural causes. Born March 26, 1940 to Helen Skidmore Perkins and Richard Luis Perkins, in Salt Lake City, UT. He met and married Margery Berwald in November 1962 (later divorced) and had 5 children.

Rick spent over 50 years in the Real Estate industry in various capacities, including Realtor/Broker, Developer, and Appraiser. He loved the game of golf, traveling with friends and family, and he was a parishioner at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, where he was actively involved with the RCIA team for many years. He married Denise Guiney Black in October 2002 and together they enjoyed numerous rounds of golf all over the country, a sip of scotch on the deck, and being with their blended family. Rick was a season ticket holder and fan of the Utah Symphony and a die-hard fan of the Utah Jazz, the University of Utah and anyone playing BYU.

Survived by his wife, Denise; and his sisters, Margo Gardner and Annette Nielsen (Rea). Preceded in death by his parents; son, Richie; sister, Rebecca Brown (Don); and brother in-law, Dick Gardner.

Rick was a loving father to Paige, Michael A. (Tracy Darling), Nicole, Julie Anne Black (Don Nunn), David Black (Kristen), and Jimmy Black (Corinne Gipson). He was loved by his five grandsons Andrew and Anthony Bo, Ethan and Gabriel Perkins, and John Black, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at St. Mark’s Hospital and Highland Care Center for their gentle touch and loving care provided to “Ricker” over the past 30 days. We could not have done it without you all.

A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, July 8th, 2019 at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. In honor of Ricker, golf attire is not only requested, it’s expected! A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas More, 3015 Creek Rd, Cottonwood Heights, on July 9th, 2019 at 10:00 am with interment to follow at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 200 “N” Street.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Rick's memory to the Utah Symphony.

Rick was a class act and a fine man, He always had a smile for me and he always made me glad to spend time together. We talked of life, we talked of God and drank of good scotch. I will very much miss my good friend. Gods speed.

Dear Family, What a treasure Rick is. He invested his talents many fold, which causes his redeemer to proclaim, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant from Matthew 25. He spoke on the story of Jabez, which is Hebrew for the word 'pain'. The story of Jabez left a truth of our redeemer in my heart. Rick, I was blessed to see you and tell you how much you have blessed me personally, a week before you went home. Thank you for bringing , a 'cradle' Catholic back to the truth. I thank God for you and I am so grateful for your ministry. You laughed and told me how much you miss Denise's cooking. They would not let you eat in the hospital....I love her cooking too! You always spoke lovingly of your children. Your daughter, Nicole, greeted us as we left. God bless you Rick, as you have blessed so many seeking the truth. You are truly a blessing and a testament to a life well lived! God bless your family and lift them up during this very difficult time. With much love, Michelle Jones

I have many fond memories of playing golf with my dad, Rick, Michael, and their many golfing friends. Rick was such a nice man and a testament to his faith. I felt so fortunate to be able to spend some time at my mother’s recent celebration of life. I will treasure the memories and pray for Rick and the family during this sad and difficult time.
