Robert Dean Maners

June 21, 1933 - December 8, 2009

Robert Dean Maners

6/21/1933 – 12/8/2009

You may have seen him in the warmer months wearing his characteristic USC Trojan cap, Hawaiian shirt and sparkling blue eyes.  At first snowfall, he was a daily skier at Deer Valley where he greeted everyone by name.  A long time visitor and eighteen year resident of Park City, Robert “Bob” Maners passed away on December 8th. Bob was born June 21, 1933 and grew up a California beach boy in San Diego.   He developed "passionate fan" status for Trojan football at USC where he was Yell King and Big Man on Campus, graduating in the class of 1955. After graduation, Bob served in the U.S. Marine Corp until there was a career opportunity at his alma mater.  Bob worked for the University of Southern California for 28 years as the Executive Director of Development prior to moving on to become President of the California State University ("CSU") Foundation and Executive Director of University Development for the then, 21 CSU campuses. Bob especially loved and encouraged many young people in their admission process to various universities.  After moving to Park City in 1992, Bob volunteered fund raising consulting services to the Kimball Art Center, National Ability Center and other local charitable foundations.

Bob was a loving, generous husband and father to his wife, Laura and three children, Dean (wife, Colleen), Wendelin and Courtney (husband, Eric).  He was a proud grandfather of twins Will and Sydney Maners. He was a loyal friend, ski buddy and golf partner to many others. His family will follow his live life to the fullest, "work hard-play hard" example.  Suitcase in hand, he and his wife traveled extensively enjoying skiing abroad, attending USC football games and sunning in Maui.  Bob's friends were friends for life and he will be dearly and deeply missed by all.

The family will hold a private celebration of Bob's life.

In Loving Memory

Oh Laura, I am so sorry to hear this. When I last saw him, I thought he was doing so much better. Please know how much I am feeling for you and praying that you and the family can rejoice in his life over these holidays. I will call you when I return from CA. My heart and soul are with you, Marilla

I wanted to pass along my condolences to the family. I got to know Bob about 5 years ago when we worked together to bring the Trojan Band to Park City From the moment I met him I knew we would be successful, despite being grossly outnumbered by alumni that wanted the headquarters to be in Salt Lake City. I have a photograph of the Trojan Band marching down Main Street right next to my desk, and that is how I will remember Bob. Bob was a fantastic role model to me growing up next door to him when he lived on Vista del Sol in Redondo beach, CA. in the 1960's. When Bob was passionate about something, is was infectious. That is probably why I took up skiing, joined the Marine Corp and drove Porsche's all my life! Thanks Bob! The McSweeney's loved you.

Dear Laura, I was so sad to see the obituary for Bob in the paper. It's been a long time since I've seen either one of you, so I don't know if he had been ill for some time. I will never forget Bob's kindhearted, and helpful spirit. He was one of those people who always had such positive energy and was so much fun to be around. He really did have a love for life and dedication to his family. I know he will be missed so much by so many. I'll never forget the help and kindness he showed us. My thoughts and prayers are with you Laura, particularly during this holiday season. How lucky I feel to have known such a wonderful, giving person. Warmest regards, Susan
