Robert Dudley Wiss
March 18, 1959 - March 21, 2016
Robert Dudley Wiss, our beloved father, son, brother, uncle and dear friend unexpectedly left us, far too soon, on March 21, 2016. Rob was born on March 18, 1959 in New York City, New York, to Fredrick Wiss and Faith Robbins Wiss. He attended Millburn High School in Millburn, New Jersey. Rob moved to Utah and attended Utah State University where he met a multitude of lifelong friends and graduated with degrees in History and Sociology and earned a teaching certificate in secondary education. He married Eileen McDonough in 1983, later divorced. Together they had 4 beautiful children. Rob worked for the State of Utah as a Youth Corrections Probation Officer and as a Vocations Rehabilitation Counsellor. Rob recently went back to school to earn a third degree as a fitness technician from Salt Lake Community College and took a position as a counselor with the Salt Lake Community Collage Disability Resource Center. Rob had a passion for his work. He worked hard and played hard. Rob was looking forward to becoming a "Papa" with the birth of his first grandchild this coming August.
Rob was preceded in death by his father Frederick Wiss.
He is survived by his mother Faith Robbins-Wiss of Kennebunk, ME; siblings Elizabeth W. Leonard of Mechanicsburg, PA, Charlie (Molly) Wiss, Pamela Smith of Cumming, GA, and Bradford Wiss of Boston, MA; his 4 children to whom he wasn't only a Papa, but a friend – Riley James, Patty Robbins, Kelsey Marie (with future granddaughter Delilah Riley Demille), and Robbie Christopher Wiss.
A celebration of Rob's life will be held on Saturday, April 2 from 6 to 8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, SLC.
In Loving Memory
Rob's adventurous spirit brought him West where he won the hearts of many friends and one special Love. I grieve with his family at the loss of his companionship and generosity. I will raise a glass in his honor, although I regret I must miss the celebration of his life with our many mutual friends. Godspeed, brother!
