Robert Mayo
November 9, 1944 - January 8, 2014
Robert "Bob" Mayo, 69, left us on January 8, 2014, at home with his family by his side in Sandy, Utah.
Robert was born November 9, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Deacon Silvio and Mary Mayo.
Robert attended Judge Memorial High School where he was student body President and all-around athlete. In 1969 he graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Sociology.
After graduation he began working for JCPenney where he was promoted to several high level managerial positions and posts over a 20 year career span. After leaving JCPenney he worked for Huish Corporation and then spent 10 years as Director at the St. Vincent de Paul Center where he helped countless people in need of assistance and a new start. After retiring he became a crossing guard for the Sandy City Police and volunteered at the local Senior Center.
Robert's interests included family, an extensive list of lifelong friends, sports and travel. Robert was a good man, loyal husband, great father, son, brother and friend.
Robert is survived by his wife, Kathy Mayo; parents Deacon Silvio and Mary Mayo; brother, Monsignor Joseph Mayo; sister, Joanne Mayo; two sons David Mayo and Paul (Tina) Mayo; stepchildren Ryan (Jennifer) Barton, Rychelle Barton (Marian Borges); five grandchildren; and one great-grand child.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 13th at 11:00 AM at The Cathedral of the Madeleine, 331 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City.
Friends are invited to a celebration of Robert's life on Sunday, January 12th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, where complimentary valet parking will be provided on the north side of the building.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Catholic Community Services or the Humane Society of Utah. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.starksfuneral.com
