Robert W. Langford

March 7, 1931 - September 20, 2012

Robert "Bob" Langford
Semper Fi

Our loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed to his new life on September 20th, 2012.

He was born on March 7, 1931 in Panguitch, UT to John Quincy Langford and Kate Belle Murray. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He met and married the love of his life Virgina Gertino on June 1, 1952. Bob was employed by the Salt Lake County Board of Health as a Sanitarian. He also owned and operated the V Club on State Street. He loved fishing, playing KENO and working his ranch in Manila, UT. Bob was the best storyteller, had a joke for everything and was the life of the party. His best attribute was his sense of humor. Above all, he adored spending time with his family at Flaming Gorge. He was beloved by everyone who knew him and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife; children Bob (Jan), Michael "Rodney" (Cindy), Teresa (Ryan) Edwards; daughter-in-law Jodi Langford; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son Steven and four siblings.

Friends may call upon the family at a Celebration of Bob's Life on Sunday, September 23rd from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 24th at 11:00 AM at St. Ann Catholic Church, 450 East 2100 South, Salt Lake City. Interment Manila City Cemetery on Tuesday, September 25th at 1:00 PM.

In Loving Memory

There are many fond memories of Uncle Bob. And each member of my family has their own special experience. In the quote: "A stranger is someone I haven't met." is something that really held true for this wonderful man. My family and I wish to express our sympathy to everyone in the Langford family. We love you all. Dianne Christensen Scott

I'll always remember Uncle Bob's humor, good nature, smile, and the twinkle in his eye! . When I would see him, I was always amazed at how much he looked like my Dad, Reed. He was loved by all and will be truly missed by family and friends. My thoughts and prayers go out to Aunt Virginia and everyone in the Langford family.

I too have many wonderful memories of Uncle Bob. He always seemed to make the best of every situation. I had the pleasure of running into him at the V.A during some of the appointments I was at with my dad. My dad would light up when we talked with him. He would always tell me when "Bobbie" came to see him. It always made him feel better. He was a "beer sponsor" for the race cars when my husband was involved and always joked it would be cheeper to just give them a check at the begining of the year. I will miss you - and my thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

My first memories of Uncle Bob stand out most vividly in my mind. I remember him as big and handsome, all twinkling eyes, bushy mustache and toothy smile. He had strong arms that threw me high into the sky and caught me mid-air then deposited me safely on the ground. I cannot think of him without smiling, remembering the zest he had for life, how much he loved his friends and family and the way he'd make me laugh until my sides hurt. Even as an adult, I still loved his stories and took great delight in suspending belief and letting myself get sucked into those tall tales right up to the end. Though I knew him not nearly as well as I would have liked, he enriched my life and inspired in me that same love of laughter and a good story. My heart goes out to his loved ones and I mourn his loss with you.

I was very sad at Bob's passing. He came often to visit with Reed when he was ill. He cheered us both up always a laugh or a story. The three of us spent hours looking at old family pictures and wondering "Who are all these people?" They spent good times talking about fishing and hunting and remembering when they were kids on 2nd So. Reliving memories good and bad, they were more than Brothers, they were good Friends. I miss Reed and I will miss Bob.

I've taken my family to this place many times over the past 24 years, and have just fenishid J.O.Langford's book Big Bend and both the book and site it's self are full of the history of people and place that gives mear land a life that can and does capture one's soul for a lifetime. They say that a picture is worth a 1000 words and that is true, but only in reading the tales of the people that lived, loved and died in a place can one truly know a place. Go there and find what J.O. knew: There were in these sights a splendor and magnificence not to be denied. There was in them, too, that which could quiet and ease the restless spirit of man. Such is the power of the Big Bend of Texas

Dear Virginia, I just found out about Bob's passing. I would love to tell you the story about your husband serving with my own Uncle Bob. He was with my uncle when he was killed in the Korean War. We never knew how my Uncle died and it wasn't until I was able to contact your husband through a website 60 years later that I was able to find out the truth of my uncle's honorable death. Your husband's information and kind words through email gave us such comfort, especially to my mother (my uncle's sister) who is now almost 91 years of age. I will never forget your husband's kindness. Please feel free to email me if you wish. I am very sorry for your loss. God bless you. Nancy Woogen
