A Longer Dash Than Most

SLC/Carbon County, UT — After living an incredible 98 years, Rosalie packed up her dancing shoes to join her favorite dancing partner, Sam.

This petite but mighty woman was born Rosalia Carolina Bonza in Spring Glen, UT to Joseph Bonza and Pauline Carrera.  After losing her mother at the age of 3, Rosalie was raised by her Italian immigrant grandparents, Carlo Carrera and Rosa Pessetto on their farm in Helper, UT.  Part of the Greatest Generation, Rosalie graduated from the University of Utah during the Depression era with a BS in Education.  She began her 32-year teaching career in the tiny coal camp of Kenilworth, UT where she met the love of her life, Sam Corey.  This Northern Italian girl was swept off her feet by this Southern Italian, Salvatore Curia.  Rosalie and Sam were married and the sparks flew for 60 years.  From this union came five children, 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 6+ great-great grandchildren.

In 1953, the family moved to SLC and Rosalie resumed her teaching career with the SLC School District at Douglas and Highland Park Elementary Schools.  She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Salt Lake Council of Women, and the Italian-American Civic League.  She and Sam were also active members of the 49ers, Elks, Moose, and Eagle Lodges, Hollandia, Havio and any other organization that allowed them to dance.

Rosalie was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Ann and St. Vincent Catholic Churches.

Rosalie was preceded in death by Sam in 1998.

She is survived by her children Richard (Marleen), Gerald (Rosemary), Geraldine (John) Dudley, Marianne (Ernesto) Agudo, Joann (Bill) Price; all of her loving grandchildren; in-laws; and a large extended family.

A wake will be held on Sunday, December 1st from 6-8 at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, where complimentary valet parking will be provided on the north side of the building. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 2nd at 11:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 East Spring Lane, Salt Lake City.  Interment to follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Ave and "T" Street.

Special thanks to Hospice and the other caregivers at Silverado who made our mother's final days so peaceful.  Also to St. Ann, St. Vincent, and our dear friends for their many visits and prayers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of our mother to the Salt Lake Education Foundation, 440 East 100 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84111 or Silverado Hospice, 855 E 4800 S #240, Murray, UT 84117.

Ciao, bella. We will miss your wit, wisdom and spunk.

Let the polka music begin!

In Loving Memory

I will miss my dearest Aunt so much! My heart, prayers and sympathy go out to my cousins, Joann, Marianne, Richard, Gerald and Geraldine, their spouses and all the grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed but I picture her dancing with my Uncle Sam, both of them will be watching over us now! Much Love, Roxana
