Ruth Carole Barney Brimley

January 11, 1928 - July 20, 2014

Carole passed away peacefully on July 20, 2014 in the home that she and her husband lovingly built shortly after they wed on Kentucky Avenue in Holladay. 

Carole was born to Dr. Archie Fay and Ellen Livonia Adams Barney on January 11, 1928. She grew up in the Highland Park area and met her sweetheart Kirk L. Brimley at South High School. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 6, 1946. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served faithfully in many callings. Carole was a passionate gardener and it showed at their home. Carole loved music and was a member of the Schubert Singers and sang in many public venues. She also played the violin. Carole was a swimmer and spent many years teaching swimming lessons at her home. Her family was her life. She was always kind and gentle and made every holiday and birthday special. She made every day special. 

Carole is survived by her husband of 68 years; children David, Carole Denise (Ron) Green, Colleen (Joe) Pfeifer, Karen Ann (Scott) Guthrie, Kristen (Tyler) Walton; 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; sister Rae Ellen Smith.

Preceded in death by her Granddaughter, Kelly Melissa Pfeifer, Sister Agness Fay Chamberlain, and Brother Archie Dean Barney.

A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00pm on Sunday, July 27th at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East. Funeral service will be held at 12:00pm on Monday, July 28th at Holladay 10th Ward, 4601 South Chapel Drive, viewing will be held one hour prior. Interment to follow at Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Ave and “N” Street.
