Sam M. Montoya
November 4, 1931 - January 15, 2019
Sam M. Montoya age 87 died on Tuesday January 15th with his loving wife Carlida by his side. Sam loved his family. He especially cherished his grandchildren. He was known for always being there. He helped his family, friends and even strangers, he truly defined the saying “He would give the shirt off his back”.
All his children and grandchildren have many fond memories of many road trips and going to boxing matches. We will cherish his unexpected feisty sense of humor that brought us so many laughs and memories. He loved attending his grand children's sporting and talent events that brought him so much Joy. He also enjoyed watching boxing and football. His favorite football team was the Denver Broncos. Sam was born in Colmer New Mexico to Pablo Montoya and Euginia Vargas. He was the 6th of 8 children. Later his family moved to Wyoming. As a young adult he enlisted in the Army. After his service He ended up in Salt Lake where he attended Sal Lake Technical School and also met the love Carlida. They Married on May 18th 1937. They resided for a short time in Wyoming and later moved back to Salt Lake where they bought a home to raise their family. Sam was a hard worker and worked as a contractor and retired as a cement finisher from Oakland construction.
Sam leaves his wife Carlida, sister Emilina, Children Ben, Ernie (Wendy) Maria. Many nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and his first great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Johnny, Conrad, Albert, Joe, sisters Rosie and Mary, sons Sam Jr. , Paul, daughter in law Lori Dawn, son in law Perry.
Our family would like to extend our Thanks to Sandy Health and rehab, Superior hospice, VA and Starks Funeral Parlor. Services will be held on January 23rd 2019 at Veterans Memorial Chapel and Cemetery located on 17111 south Camp Williams Road (1700 West). Bluffdale 84065. Visiting 12:00-1:00 service/burial 1:00-3:00. Luncheon will follow at 10778 South Redwood Road, South Jordan 84095.
