Sandra Royds Landis

April 30, 1937 - January 6, 2012

Sandra R. Landis

Sandra R. Landis passed away on January 6, 2012. She was born to Arthur V. and Maxine S. Royds in Chicago, Illinois on April 30, 1937.  Sandy lived in Illinois, California and Park City, Utah.

Sandy attended Downers Grove High School where she participated in swimming. She attended Texas Christian University and University of Wisconsin and a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Sandy graduated with a BA in nursing. She moved to Los Angeles, CA where she met Bradley C. Landis. They married and had children; Sean C. and Heather L. Luttmer. Later divorced, Sandy always put her children first in her life. Sandy took a great deal of pride in her children and was a determined and devoted single parent. Although she faced many challenges in those years, she conquered these setbacks continually with optimism, hope and inner strength.

Sandy worked in the medical field her entire employment career. She fondly recalled her many colleagues and friends at IHC. Sandy was a lover of animals. She worked tirelessly with a feral cat colony until suffering a heart attack.  She became so close to one wild cat that she was able to adopt him.  Sandy had many feline friends throughout her life. Willy and Sherman were her final companions.

Sandy cheered on her family through countless baseball, basketball and equestrian events. She was a committed Utes fan, loved the Dodgers, and followed all bowl and NCAA tournament games.

Upon moving to Utah, she learned to ski as a middle ager and enjoyed many years of Wasatch front skiing – downhill; cross country, not so much.

She is survived by sisters: Barbara (John) Schaefer and Carole (John) Withers; son-Sean and his children: Katie, Amie, Debbie and Christi; daughter-Heather (Grant); children: Nate and Amelia; 1 great grandchild, 3 nephews, 1 niece, several cousins, friends-life long and new and special sister, Heather Brown.

Although mom didn’t like flowers and plants, she did love animals. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to: No More Homeless Pets. 8029 s 700 E, Sandy UT 84020 or Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Sandy’s name.

Sandy was a Christian and believed all people are equal in God’s eyes. She chose to have a private service.

If you would like to have additional information regarding the services, please contact the family.

In Loving Memory

I worked with Sandy at Community Nursing Service for several years. At that time I was new to Utah and new to home health care and struggling to adjust. Sandy was always kind, supportive and able to make me laugh during trying times. My best to all of you in her family. Kate Lambert.

Heather and Sean, I've thought of your mom many times over the years even though we had lost touch. I wanted you to know much I thought of Sandy. She took me in when I needed help and she was always there for me. She was a friend and always a lady. My best to you both.

Sean and Heather, Please accept our sincere condolences for the loss of your mother. I worked with Sandy 35 years ago at Medical Personnel Pool. We lost touch over the years but I still remember her fondly. Some people are forgettable, but she wasn't one of them. She had the most wicked sense of humor and a laugh that went with it. She was smart and kind. She might well have been the most opinionated person I've ever known, but even when we disagreed I knew where she stood and respected her point of view. She was the kind of personality you just don't see anymore. On top of all that she was a great mother. I knew her when you had just moved to Utah and it was very clear that her life revolved around the two of you. She was a great lady. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
