Sandra “Sandy” Joan Nichols
May 18, 1943 - August 12, 2025
Sandra “Sandy” Joan Nichols passed away in her sleep on August 12, 2025, due to a rapid decline in her health that emerged several months ago. She was 82 years old.
Sandra built a lengthy career in the telecommunications industry that spanned approximately 40 years. She began as an operator for Pacific Northwest Bell, which later became AT&T, and held such management positions as running the entire office of operators and support staff while at the San Diego facility. Sandra, who retired from AT&T in her 50s, also worked at Convergys’ call center, where she retired in her 60s.
In addition to work, Sandra was also active at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Sandy, Utah. She taught religious education, and helped with funerals and social outreach.
Sandra was involved with the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO), a non-profit that supports women in obtaining their goals. Additionally, she was a member of the Red Hat Society, a women’s social group.
Her interests and hobbies included the theater and cinema, as well as the Sundance Film Festival. She also enjoyed traveling, playing Bunco and attending her book club, given her avid interest in reading.
And above all, Sandra’s main interest was her family and friends. They meant a great deal to her.
Sandra is survived by husband Doug Nichols; daughter Missy Corcoran and step-children Andy, Jeff and Pam Nichols; brothers Thomas and William Burford; and two grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and 13 step-great grandchildren.
A wake will be on Friday, September 12, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Millcreek, UT.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 11:00 am at St Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 E Creek Road, Cottonwood Heights, UT., with a reception immediately following the service.
The family would also like to thank the staff and nurses at Escalante at Coventry nursing home in Cottonwood Heights, UT., who have provided great care to Sandra and Doug.
In Loving Memory
Dear Family, it was an honor to know such a beautiful person as Sandy. She raised an equally beautiful and amazing daughter in Missy. You are all her joy and a testament to a life well lived. She is your prayer warrior now. God bless you all during this very difficult time.

Sandy and I have been close friends since 2009. We traveled to New York City together and attended many STM Ladies Christmas luncheons over the years as well as belonging to Red Hats and a book club together, and we participated in many exercise classes together at Dimple Dell for over 10 years. I consider myself very blessed to have had her friendship. She was always there for me if a need arose. I miss her terribly. Hugs & prayers for Missy and the family.

In 2010, I took a job at Canyon Creek Care Facility and a few months later met Sandy, Doug and your Grandmother Jean. Jean took to me and your Mother and I got to know each other quite well. Jean often with sit with my Great Aunt and Sandy would come find me to tell me “ The Ladies Who Lunch are at it again! Sandy was an amazing woman and I so regret not staying in touch. May your family continue to find peace knowing your mother touched the lives of those she knew for only a short while.
