Sandra Shurts
January 16, 1941 - June 19, 2015
Sandra Ann (Smith) Shurts, age 74, passed away the morning of June 19, 2015 after a battle with breast cancer. Sandra was born on January 16, 1941 in Portland, Oregon to Sylvanus Smith and Arlene Crane. Growing up, she enjoyed the loving guidance of her paternal grandparents and her father's second wife, Cynthia Musgrave.
Sandra graduated from South Eugene High School in 1959 and later studied at the University of Oregon. In her younger years, she lived in several locations in Oregon, including Eugene, Coquille and Portland where she attended St. Helens Hall. However, her fondest childhood memories come from the summers she spent on her family farm in Stanfield, Oregon. There, with her grandparents and her younger brother, Neil, she enjoyed freedom to explore the countryside, ride horses (and cows) and make friends with the neighbors' kids.
Sandra's greatest passion throughout her life has always been her children and grandchildren. She was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother. She taught them all by word and example how to live a happy and joyful life. She supported them in all their school and church activities, and always encouraged them to do their best. She also blessed her family with her expert sewing, quilting and scrap-booking projects.
She is survived by her brother, Ron; seven children Suzanne Stevens, Karl, Lynelle Holman, Doreene, N. Cynthia Kerutis, G. Doug and Ross; 22 grandchildren; and numerous loving relatives and friends. She will be dearly missed by all.
A celebration of her life and memory will be held on Saturday, June 27th from 6:00-8:00pm for all who wish to attend, at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 S 900 E, SLC, where complimentary valet parking will be provided on the north side of the building.
