The last of five boys, Scott was born in St. George, Utah on October 18,1953 to Bryon B. and Alice Hendrikson McCune. Shortly after Scott’s birth his family moved from St. George to Salt Lake City and settled in the Holladay area. He is survived by his brothers, Brent McCune (Karen), Beaverton, OR and Clark McCune, Salt Lake City, UT, Whitney Benns, Salt Lake City, UT and Keshia Hardman, Salt Lake City who he loved and thought of as his daughters. His parents and brothers Reed McCune and Dean McCune preceded him in death.
Scott attended Cottonwood Elementary, Olympus Junior High and graduated from Olympus High School. He was a voracious reader of historical fiction, mystery and legal drama and a fan of different genres of music including Bluegrass, Rock and Blues. Posters of his favorite concerts hung on the wall of his home. As a lover of travel in his younger years, his road trips included British Columbia, the Oregon Coast and the Grand Canyon. Several years ago, Scott and his brother Brent made a special trip to Kauai, Hawaii, a place where he enjoyed the warm weather, beautiful beach and sunset.
Scott’s work life started at McCune Trucking, the family business. He took a detour to North Carolina to work with a friend in an etched glass business. Later, he returned to Salt Lake to work at McCune Trucking. After Scott’s mother died in 1996, Scott moved into the family home and was the primary companion and caregiver for his father until his father’s death in 2003. He retired and purchased a home in Taylorsville where he lived until the last 6 months of his passing.
A special thanks goes to Clark, his brother, for being Scott’s primary caregiver as Scott’s health declined.
