Sean Loyal Maloney

April 30, 1955 - December 14, 2021

Sean Loyal Maloney was born on April 30, 1955, and passed away on December 13, 2021 surrounded by family.

Sean was born to Barbara Jean Maloney and Frank Loyal Maloney in Salt Lake City Utah. He enjoyed a joyful childhood with his four brothers, Kevin, Dan, Mike and John. Growing up in Millcreek, Utah, they acquired numerous family friends, many who remained close into adulthood. Sean loved collecting and building models as a kid, and fondly recounts the time he exploded one and later regretted it. He would later build models with his children, and enjoy it his whole life.

One of Sean's favorite past times was going to the desert with his friends. They started in high school, and continued into his 20s. Sean owned an old Land Cruiser during that time, and loved nothing more than loading it up and going camping with his buddies. He also enjoyed skiing regularly throughout his teenage and adult years. Rock n Roll was a big part of his life, and beyond seeing many legendary bands, he was proud to tell stories of his times seeing the Grateful Dead, and of the homemade banners he created for the shows with his friends.
After school, Sean was hired at Menlove Dodge Toyota, where he worked his way up from Service Writer to Sales Manager. It was there that he became close with owner Bill Johnson, as well as Bill's daughter, Corinne.

Sean and Corinne began dating, and during their courtship, they loved camping, skiing, boating, and traveling. They visited multiple places in Europe, and both spoke very fondly of their time in France, as well as on the Rhine River in Germany. They later married on the 22nd of February, 1986. The following September they welcomed their first child, Kathryn Anne. Their second daughter, Kristin Jean, was born in July of 1990.

All through Sean's life, travel remained a consistent love. He spent endless weekends at his family cabin in Woodland, where he loved to light a fire and listen to music. He spent each summer at the family's other cabin at Hebgen Lake, Montana, where he loved sitting by the lake, visiting Yellowstone National Park and playing poker with his family. Sean visited Ireland in 2004 and again 2015 with his children, his brothers and their families. He was in love with the beauty of the land, and loved being surrounded by his family in such a special place.
Sean was a head strong, and independent man, who could be described as the epitome of a person who “sang to his own tune”. He was a very logical person, who approached issues head on, and tackled them accordingly. He was very knowledgeable of cars, and was always willing to offer any advice on the subject, and many others as well. Sean was a very sweet and sensitive person deep down, and he loved very strongly and fiercely.

Sean is preceded in death by his father, Frank, mother Barbara, as well as his brothers, Kevin and Dan. His ashes will be joining theirs at the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland. He is survived by his brothers Mike, John, and their families, as well as his daughters, Kathryn and Kristin, and his first granddaughter, Aurora Rose.

A wake will be on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the parking on the north side of the building.
