Shannon Kevin Rafferty

April 18, 1950 - June 17, 2014

Shannon Kevin Rafferty was born April 18, 1950, in Bellflower, Los Angeles County, California to the late Patrick Francis Rafferty and Lillian Maureen Chatham.  He departed this life on June 17, 2014 at the Stonehenge care center in American Fork, Utah County, Utah.

At the age of 21, Shannon joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he remained a faithful member throughout his life, serving his local congregation in many volunteer teaching and administrative capacities.

Shannon graduated from Downey High School, Downey, California and then completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences in 1972, at the University of California at Irvine.  Following graduation, he served a mission for his church in the New Mexico – Arizona area, first among the Navajo Indians and later in English-speaking areas.  His career was with the Workers' Compensation Rating Bureau of California.

He was married in the Los Angeles Temple on April 27, 1983.

His wife Karen Lisa Rose (Hoffman) Rafferty of Orem, Utah; son Andrew Patrick Rafferty and daughter-in-law Chrystina Vandergriff Rafferty of Provo, Utah, are left with many cherished memories of his sense of humor, his gentleness, and his testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 28th at the Sharon Park Third Ward Building, 225 East 200 North, Orem, UT 84057.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to LDS Charities (ldscharities.org) or Heifer International (heifer.org).

In Loving Memory

I worked with shannon while he was in the hospital and I was stunned and saddened to hear his "recovery" had come in this vein. I know he had hoped to have many more years to be around those he loved. He was such a joy to work with, always learning and asking questions to understand what his role in disease management was, his positive attitude, his humor, or enlightening conversations and his faith that bolstered me through my own concerns are memories I cherish of time spent with him.. He touched my life with the little amount of time we shared together as I'm sure he did so many others and so I am sure his absence is keenly felt. My heart and prayers go out to his loved ones who are suffering more than he is as his time of care and suffering are over. God bless.

Dear Karen, my heart is filled with sadness in your loss. While our lives did not follow like they did in childhood, Shannon and I were always best of friends. With loving thoughts for you and your family, Jim

Dear Karen, I hope you receive this note. I have literally just discovered my gentle giant friend had passed. I am so sorry for your loss. A part of my heart will be forever joyful that I had such a precious and most wonderful friend. I treasure the many fun adventures our little gang had. HUNDREDS of hours of laughter and fun. I NEVER gave up trying to find my friend in the decades since I had seen him, how unbelievably devastating to find I will hug that glorious soul again. I am happy he found such love and family with you...many great nights at his mom's....I hope you and your family are well. Please know there is a zany woman in the middle of British Columbia who will always remember a gentle and most favourite friend. Always, Niecy Cutts
