Sharon M. Lee

February 2, 1942 - October 2, 2024

Sharon Lee was born on Ground Hog’s Day in her parent’s home (Harry and Charlotte Harmon)  in Marquette, Kansas. She was the oldest of three children – sister to Carolyn & Harold (Buddy). As a teenager, her father was severely injured during a farming tractor accident on his father’s farm in Ellsworth, KS. Her father’s hospitalization and lengthy recovery led to Sharon’s desire to become a nurse. After graduation from Wichita Southeast High School in 1960, she attended nursing school to become an LPN.  During her early 20’s, she was taking a night class at Wichita State University where she met Don Lee, who was stationed at the McConnell Air Force Base. They married on August 6, 1966.  After the wedding, Don and Sharon begin their marriage life in Morgantown, West Virginia so Don could finish his college education. After Don graduated from WVU, they relocated to Ypsilanti, Michigan in 1967. Once they settled in Ypsilanti, Sharon and Don started a family which consisted of 3 children, Jaydee, Dana and Heather. Sharon was a “working mom” raising the family but then working midnights at local hospitals. During her children’s school years, she volunteered to help with the kids’ activities (such as Girl Scouts, chaperone for field trips, High School Band Boosters). She took a cake decorating class in the 1970’s and would decorate cakes and cookies for family birthdays, school parties and at the request of friends/neighbors.

Sharon loved crafts. She knitted, crocheted, and sewed making clothes for her family. She even taught herself how to upholstery furniture. Sharon and Don had a vegetable garden and fruit trees from which Sharon would can or freeze the produce from. In the 1980’s Sharon became a private duty nurse and cared for David Abbey for a number of years who was disabled due to a motorcycle accident. Her greatest joy was taking care of babies and children who were born with severe disabilities. Sharon was a grandmother to Jaydee’s and husband, Jerimy’s, 4 children; Blake, Garrett, Cassandra, and Deanna. Sharon was raised as a Methodist but in 1997 converted to Catholicism when her husband returned to the church. When Sharon and Don retired in 1999, they moved to a cattle ranch in Whitehall, Montana. She was an active member of the Whitehall Garden Club. Her and Don began taking Caribbean cruises too. In 2001, Sharon visited Europe the first time to attend her daughter Heather’s wedding to Oskar Schuler.

Unfortunately, Sharon suffered from arthritis which eventually led to her losing her left leg in 2017 due to an unhealed fracture. Once this happened, Sharon moved from the ranch to assisted living and long-term care facilities in Butte, Montana. In the beginning of January 2023, Sharon & Don relocated to Holladay, UT where her son, Dana, lived nearby. 2024 was a rough year for Sharon since she became a widow and lost her only sister, Carolyn.

Instead of flowers, please donate in Sharon’s memory to the Arthritis Foundation.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 6:00 until 7:30 PM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1375 East Spring Lane.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 11, 2024 at 11:00 AM, also at St. Vincent.  She will be laid to rest with her husband at the Utah Veterans Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah.

Sharon is my first cousin. Several of us girl cousins were very close in age. As we were growing up, I remember my folks bringing me to spend the night or just to visit. Although I have not seen Sharon for years, she has kept in touch with me. I am sorry for your family's loss.
