Sheryl Lyn Markham

February 1, 1953 - September 26, 2013

Sheryl passed away at home on September 26, 2013, surrounded by family and friends after a courageous 3 year battle with cancer. Sheryl was born to Richard Glen and Lucille Giles on February 1, 1953, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

On October 10, 1973 Sheryl married Mike Markham and they had 3 wonderful children. Sheryl worked for many years in the printing business, spending 10 years in the sample room at Xpedx where she developed many friendships, which she treasured. Later in life, Sheryl found her true place in the Greek Orthodox Church. She loved attending Sunday services, volunteering at the Greek festival and spending time with the Philoptochos. Sheryl was a loving and caring person who welcomed all into her life.

She is survived by her husband Mike; their children Shannon (Humberto), Josh and Lindsay; as well as her newest and greatest love, her first grandchild Elijah; siblings Rick (Kim) Giles, Deb (Steve) Rowland, Wendy (Brett) Angell; and many nieces and nephews.

Sheryl wished to thank her family, friends, clergy, doctors, nurses and hospice workers for their loving care, as well as her ‘Love Posse’, “They truly saddled up and rode this journey with me.”

A Wake will take place on Monday, September 30th from 6-8 pm at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 1st at 11:00 am at Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church, 5335 South Highland Drive.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Greek Orthodox Church of Greater Salt Lake, the Utah Food Bank, or any organization that feeds the hungry.
