Shirl C. (Klair) Gallagher
November 4, 1932 - November 1, 2015
Shirl C (Klair) Gallagher passed away at the age of 82 surrounded by loved ones on November 1, 2015. He leaves behind his wife, Helen C Gallagher; son, David C Gallagher (Christine); daughter, Kristy Gallagher Bath; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Klair was born in Salt Lake City on November 4, 1932. He attended West High School, Salt Lake Technical College, and the University of Utah. He received an honorable discharge after completing his tour of duty (1951-1955) as a paratrooper during the Korean War. Klair worked in the structural steel fabrication industry as a Mechanical Engineer and retired at the age of 80. He would often make comments that he isn’t good enough at golf and no one wants to go fishing so I might as well work.
Klair married Helen Carter in 1957 and they have spent 58 wonderful years together. He was a strong, patient, loving dad and grandpa that dedicated his life to the encouragement and accomplishments of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Over the years, his hobbies have included rebuilding and racing cars, fishing, couching little league baseball and football, golf, he was always eager to play, chauffer and babysit the grandkids and great grandkids. Klair was very proud of his Irish heritage and lead the “Gallagher” clan in the St Paddy’s Day Parade for 25 years.
The family would like to express deep appreciation to those who have assisted with his care over the past 2 months.
A private family service will be held on Saturday, November 14 from 2 to 3 pm. Everyone is welcome to join us at the Celebration of Klair’s Life on Saturday, November 14 from 3 to 5 pm at the Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Huntsman Cancer Institute on behalf of Klair Gallagher.
An Irish Prayer
Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on,
And cherished memories never fade because a loved one’s gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart,
For as long as there are memories, they’ll live on in the heart.
In Loving Memory
We enjoyed having Klair participate in the Heritage Center Golf League and serve on our Golf Committee. In the gentleman's game of golf, Klair was the consummate gentleman. My life has been greatly enriched having known Klair for these few short years.
